GDT: GM #3: LA Kings vs Calgary Flames @ 7:30

Odd choice at the end there to say the least, but overall happy with how the Kings responded.

Muzzin had an off game, but he's been fantastic so far. First poor showing I've seen from him since camp opened.

Quick was off a bit too, not his best game. If he puts out his usual, Kings win in regulation.

Great game by Smith. Hate the guy but he's really good when he's behind a defense that knows what they are doing.

Just some perspective: Last year they would have lost this game 4-1 (or worse). Kopi and Brown leading the way, with some pretty solid work by others. I thought the Kings played way better than in the Philly game, even though they got the W there. Not going to let that odd line choice overshadow a pretty solid game by the Kings against an opponent who were playing very well.

The good news: Brown is back, Iafallo still looks great, and when Kopitar shoots the puck, good things happen. I also liked how the Kings responded to some of the scrums out there.

The bad news: Muzzin doing Muzzin things. Clifford's injury.

That's your thinking and I have mine. Nothing wrong with differing opinions. All I'm saying is that in my opinion Doughty is getting embarrassed by Tkachuk. Tkachuk wasn't even going after Doughty yet Tkachuk was clearly in Doughty's head. Obviously I'm not saying Doughty needs to fight every time someone comes at him and obviously I'd prefer he doesn't get hurt but there comes a time where you have to stand up for yourself. Crosby does it. Toews does it. Doughty? Just whines and talks more crap.

Yeah, Shore and Lewis was weird. Muzzin isn't built great for 3v3. I know people had good things to say about him after SJ, but I didn't see it in that game either. I thought he was slow, mentally and physically, on Saturday too. Fantenberg can skate. Put him out there. Everything that could've gone wrong on that shift did.

Doughty yapping is like Quick flailing around in net; there's a fine line. If Doughty is talking too much, it's not a good thing. Controlled emotion for Doughty, controlled athleticism for Quick.

But, welcome back Dustin Brown. Wasted a lot of years there. Keep it up. When was the last time he threw a little cheap shot cross check? I'll take it, and the penalty. People need to hate him for things other than his contract. I would love to not complain about Brown. I forget what it's like. Skating, going to the net, dirty, that's worth at least $5m.

Flames fan coming in peace - Kopitar looked very very good. He's looking to be back in form after a rough season last year. I wouldn't be surprised if he's around 30 goals, 70 points and Selke nominations again at the end of the season.

he had what, 10 40+ save games last year with the yotes, a couple 50+? he singlehandedly won those games, and doing it that many times is not a fluke

he's been behind HORRIBLE d corps so obviously he doesn't win many games but to have that high of a sv% when you're seeing that many shots is again, not a fluke

Sure, he was behind the play that Lewis and Shore f***ed up. They allowed the Flames to gain possession in their (Calgary) zone and Muzz had to play catch-up.

He's an average goalie in the league. That doesn't mean he's bad, he's just not in the upper tier like your suggesting.

i mean i'm not saying i'm gonna build a franchise around him. there's something to be said for winning a 50 save game and then turning around and giving up 5 goals, which is something he's also prone to do. he's just, very much so, capable of singlehandedly winning games and i think we got fed enough of that "quick just got hot during 2012, he's not elite" crap that we shouldn't be saying the same about other goalies
