You would think a guy like Pettersson your highest paid player and 5th highest paid player in the NHL would step up his game to another level with the injuries and players missing Canucks have right now, but he just doesn't seem to have that next gear at all. Bad signing.
weird thing to say when he's legitimately been playing better over the past two weeks and has 1 goal, 6 assists in 5 games since miller's been out

garland has 4g4a and hughes has 2g5a, for reference

Yeah crazy eh, 1g and Garland 4g, who's supposed to be the better player?

Heck throw in the face-off percentage for EP and he's at 44.5% doesn't seem that elite, when a guy like Aatu Raty has a 55.4% in the face-off circle.

It's an afternoon game on a Sunday in Detroit on Thanksgiving weekend. Not only can you get your kids out (in the beautiful downtown Detroit and still get home in time before it gets dark ) it also fits for the preferred TV schedule before the 3pm NFL and Sunday Night Football (also, the Lions don't play again till Thursday).

Yes because face off percentage is the single most important part of a players stats… I mean what’s Garlands or Hughes face offs percentage?

You clearly got shown your take was bad and tried to poorly to cover it.

Definitely is an important stat when you lose your best center, but think what you want. I wasn't aware I was questioning Hughes or Garlands abilities here, just some posters to try and justify EP value more for some bizarre reason.

No my take is not wrong, the ones who constantly try to defend him show how poor their takes are, but clearly the John Garrett homer glasses are on a few here I see, and I see you like to wear them as well.

So in your view I guess no player has stepped up…

Why were you not asking JT to step up earlier in the season when Peter was not doing well?

Let's also just I guess ignore the stat that Pettersson is on pace for his lowest goal total of his career after signing his massive contract, but who cares if someone questions his ability ever.

No that’s not it at all…

No one here or that has been defending him hasn’t said he hasn’t played poorly, they have pointed out he is playing better, and much better than he was.

They have also said hey looks like he is hurt… would be nice to get him back healthy…. Others have just denied it and said he was never hurt. Just look at his thread from the last 24 hrs…

Did I say that? We're talking about Pettersson or that's who I was talking about when I wrote my comment, regarding your highest paid player who's supposed to be this elite superstar.

Why would I ask him, the dude was producing at a point per game pace, what more to do you expect? Does he have to hold Petterssons hand to get him going?

The dreaded 9 a.m (Pacific time) start in Detroit. Hopefully the Canucks can survive the first 10-minues or so. Seems to always take at least a period for them to get their legs under them.

But in recent years, those 9 a.m. starts have usually been in places like Jersey or Philly--two teams that are far better than the Wings.

They've struggled with consistency out of the gate this year; their goaltending has been sub-par and their coach Derek Lalonde is on the hot seat. Maybe 5-3 Canucks?

Well sure seems like they do when anyone ever questions his abilities, because people like him so much, I get that being a fan, but I don't just give free passes because he's a fan favorite.

I did say a few days ago not on this site, but that he has improved in the last couple weeks, but watching him last game he looked bad again, so he's not stepping up enough still imo, an elite player shouldn't struggle this much.

Well before the season started Pettersson made sure to say the knee isn't a problem anymore, so I guess he made sure to scratch that excuse out the door, which made his start to the season even more questionable. It's pretty sad when you have ex NHL coaches or gms saying it looks like he's forgotten how to play hockey, that's a tough one to ignore.

Another return trip of Quinn Hughes to Detroit, who can only lament what might have been. In the 2018 entry draft, the Wings picked Filip Zadina at #6 overall, one pick ahead of Hughes. And seven years later, Zadina isn't even in the league.

But turnabout is fair play I guess. Canucks started the trip in Boston, who back in the day drafted David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy; and they were still on the board when the Canucks drafted Jared McCann and Oli Juolevi instead.

The draft can be a cruel mistress at times.

Juolevi was a huge miss. And the Canucks have had a bunch of them.

McCann is having a nice little career though. Not Pastrnak levels, but he would be a great player to still have.

The players we have let go burn a bit too.

Too true.....McCann was one of the prices Benning paid for bringing in Gudbranson from the Panthers.

But McCann did make stops in Florida, Pittsburgh and Toronto, before being claimed by Seattle in the expansion draft and breaking out with the Kraken.

The Juolevi pick was a big burn since they were passing up on Tkachuk. Should have been able to find a trade partner, be it AZ, Buff or Mon or something to drop down 2-3 spots at 7, 8, 9 and still have multiple D options plus maybe recoup that 2nd (Min a 3rd, they gave up in the Gudbranson trade). Not that 2016 Rd 2 was amazing. DCat, Girard, Lindgren likely your 3 best options.
From 5 onwards, it went: Juolevi, Tkachuck, Keller, Nylander, Sergachev,
Word was that Burke and Cal expected to go Dman at 6 as they expected all top 5 forwards to go in the top 5.
