The Kings of last season didn’t skate this well, nor did they attack the middle of the ice as much as they do now. Stevens really has changed the system, and it shows.

Best of all, a healthy Quick backstopping the team gives these guys so much more confidence. Sometimes it seems he doesn’t get the credit he deserves, but he means so much to this team. His confidence in net seems to rub off on his teammates.

This was what was missed most last season. The Kings have always looked more comfortable and more willing to take risks knowing that Quick is in net. Odds are, if the opponent gets a breakaway, it’s not going in on Quick.

This team looks dangerous.

MacDermid 5 mins 54 secs seriously Peter Harold played more mins a game ffs
enjoy the win KC. MacDermid is keeping the other team honest. And our own players probably feel comfortable knowing they have a monster on the team, hence they play with bigger cahones. Thats my best explanation, i know we got better options, but our coaches must like how the team plays when he is on ice/bench.

Whatever the issue, it’s working. Wish he was capable of penalty killing though.

Stevens isn't messing around. Even less time on ice for MacDermid, in a game that wasn't as close on the board as the last game. Less time for Kempe. Why even bother putting Dowd in the lineup over Brodzinski? Less time than JB got.

Through just 2 games, Doughty is still the 4th leading minute man at ES on defense. #1 for both special teams, but still, an interesting time experiment by Stevens so far. Another one, Carter, 20:06 at ES in 2 games, Clifford, 19:47.

Most impressive game in quite some time. Then again at the same time one of the least impressive games by the sharks in quite some time. I'm not sure if that was because we were that good or not. But regardless that was a solid 60 minutes of hockey, something that we could rarely say last season. Powerplay still needs work, but visually its 10 times more dangerous than last season. Last year our powerplay was easy to defend. Very minimal movement of the players, perimeter shots, no cross ice passes and very predictable. This year is like night and day.

But overall a good performance. Defense deserves a lot of credit tonight and basically neutralized the sharks. Muzzin had the gaffe which lead to Sharks goal, but was excellent both offensively and defensively. More of this please.

Fun stat: Muzzin played 28:15 tonight. Doughty played 25:38. Forbort, 20:10; Folin, 19:50; Fantenberg, 15:51.

Another fun stat, Iafallo has the third-most ice time amongst forwards, with 18:10. Only Kopitar (20:01) and Carter (18:53) were on the ice more.

Kid’s gonna be a gem.

I am enjoying this win more then u know. However when i see a player playing too many minutes or to little mins I point it out. Where i first started posting here we had Ivanna harold and jones I think every player on the team should take a regular shift I didn't see MacDermid to anything to deter anything sorry if maybe i blinked and miss something he did but with less then 6 mins i doubt i did.

It looks like we have the luxury at the moment to ease MacDermid into things. Muzzin is looking like a true #1 defenseman, which we all knew he could be.

i didn't see anything outrageous by macdermid, outside of that penalty which you could call needless, i guess. made a nice kneeling shot block in front of quick in the 2nd(?). maybe it's moreso a matter of matchups and fantenberg/folin really just playing THAT well, he kinda just got the odd man out straw..

I bet as the season progresses, Doughty will draw closer to 30 mins. They probably will utilize him more depending on situations, whether it’s a tight game or if the Kings have a comfortable need, if they’re ahead or trailing, etc.

Clifford’s usage is interesting. I’m fine with his line getting more minutes than the Kempe line. The Kings have three lines and an experimentation that isn’t clicking with Kempe at center.

tell you what sticks out like a sore thumb on that scoresheet.. burns -4, overall very lazy play and a few giveaways, and honestly a repeat of his performance against the flyers where he looked completely uninterested

I agree both folin and Fatenberg played well I just don't want to have to play muzzin or doughy over 25mins a night especially this early in the season.

I wonder what they want to do? If they’re in shape and want to, I say let them.

I'm sure they both want to be on ice as much as possible. I bet drew wants more ice time. However if Stevens truly wants the defense man (and drew in particular ) to join the rush he needs to keep the mins down so he ll have the energy to do it just my thinking but make sense to me.

The Sharks have given up the first goal of the game, in the first 10 minutes of the game, in both home games so far. That's a weird one.

I guess that 3rd line will be an ongoing experiment. I imagine at some point Iafallo will be back there not because he deserves to be but because he's so damn good he could make that line work. Imagine when Gaborik comes back and is unleashed--some combo of Gaborik-Kempe-Cammalleri-Dowd-Brodzinski. Or Gaborik-Iafallo. Whatever the tough decision to make is, it's really, really nice to have these options as problems.

With all this early season success it makes me dread the inevitable Muzzin/Martinez pairing when Marty returns.

Same but honestly Muzzin/Folin has looked better than Muzzin/Martinez has EVER looked. That's been a pleasant surprise and causes some positive 'issues' when Marty returns; Marty plays on the THIRD pairing with McD? With Fantenberg, who has looked fantastic in his own right? I've loved MacD's game, but if you only gonna play him like a 7th d-man, may as well sit him. Our D has been amazing with and without the puck with some hiccups that are mostly chemistry issues.

I don't miss Gravel one bit, sadly.

Clifford has been playing like a total freak though, he's earned it. So has Muzzin. And Doughty can shoulder that load because he's the experienced guy who is talented enough to play all situations, so it makes sense if other guys can hang at 5v5, Drew can help smooth things out elsewhere while guys continue to learn.

God damn was that fun. I haven't seen this much creativity from a Kings team since the Marc Crawford shit show. So many creative plays and passes force the opponent to be honest with their defense which only reinforces our previous strength--puck possession/cycle--with creativity and speed.

Muzzin's resurgence is reassuring and much appreciated but the play of Folin and Fantanberg is just great to see. May make Gravel expendable.

Fantenberg has really surprised me from the all-around perspective. He's basically Sekera-lite. Would love to see how he does in a bigger role when he's eased in.
