A craptastic 2 points, but, a craptastic 2 points they wouldn't have gotten last year. A handful of bottom rung guys and Quick showed up. They know they already got the last coach fired right? Kopitar, Carter, Toffoli, Pearson, Doughty, next game I guess.

did brodz or kempe see ice in the 3rd? i'm pretty sure i saw brodz in 7:xx and kempe at 9:xx going into the 3rd and they closed out there too

i think macdermid saw a couple shifts but the rookies and clifford were stapled for the most part

Happy to finally start a season with a win. Thought they started the game off pretty well, but trailed off from then on. Shore's line was excellent all night long. The pass from Shore to Lewis was thing of beauty. But outside of Shore's line the rest were kind of meh. The 70s line got the 2nd goal, but for the most part were pretty tame much like the other lines. Thought Muzzin had a great game. Haven't seen him play that well in a while and thought he was more noticeable than Doughty. I think the player who surprised me the most and was probably one of the best players of the game was Folin. He was strong all night long, was physical, key on the penalty kill. And obviously Jonathan Quick was the star tonight returning to his usual self. Think he's going to have a huge year.

Overall I don't think people should read too much into this game. Certainly was not clean by any means, but I think we lose this game last season. We won't have it all figured on game 1 of an 82 game season.

Kempe/Brodz did little to earn anymore ice time. Both played pretty poorly.

The Third line is going to be a problem for the Kings until someone steps up. Or they Put Shore's line as the Third.

Game 1's a 2-0 shutout win but everyone sucks.

Sort of like last year when we were dominant game in and game out but losing, so everyone sucked. Shrug emoji.

Not gonna get a good feel for this season for quite some time, first few weeks are always a shit show. especially given we've got a pretty different system going, looks like a lot of the big minute guys have to do some deprogramming, they looked mildly uncomfortable pushing the puck up ice quickly instead of sloooowwwwing the game down to a crawl.

Losing 50/50 puck battles is still a problem, once Philly turned it on the Kings lost just about every 50/50 puck. Has nothing to do with system and everything to do with compete and will. That caused a lot of losses last year, especially with blowing leads.

That is a sign of concern for me.

You know who had a strong game? Folin. Tonight he was the guy I thought we'd be getting.

The defending Stanley Cup champs just got axe murdered all over the ice 10-1. Think I'm gonna hold off on generalizing.

guess i'm just not really seeing what someone like cammy did that the rookies didn't.. i mean outside of the 4th line, most players were pretty poor

obviously it's the 1st game but i think you gotta let the kids run sometimes, i'm not sure anyone's gonna do anything when they're playing <8 minutes in a game

I would rather move the fouth line to 3rd line then move Shore off that line. For whatever reason Shores offensive side is showing up. That fourth line had good chemistry tonight. I ask why screw with what works ?

Except Pitt won the Cup last year. I would have more faith, if what I just described wasn't an issue last season.

The Kings were still absolutely dominant in possession last year, and among the top of the league in hits. You don't get to lead both those categories if you're not consistently winning battles and hanging onto the puck.

It was certainly noticeable tonight, but 1. its' one night and 2. that's gonna be a tradeoff when you replace guys like King with guys like Brodzinski. Can't have your cake and eat it too. I'm not gonna question this team's board tenacity until I know what this team is considering the new system and personnel.

I wish Iaffalo would have played more. He made a lot of really good plays.

I thought he was banged up--though I could be wrong.

I tried to stay off HF most of the game and enjoyed the hell out of it, so that's why I'm pretty shocked I came here and saw so much hypercriticism. Obviously the Flyers took over on into the third, but I saw our guys make lots of positive plays and attempting things they wouldn't even have bothered with last season, yes, including Kopitar taking the center of the ice for his own. There's going to be a learning curve there and some chemistry issues, it is what it is.

i mean i don't know much about the guy, but minny let a player like this go? they couldn't afford to pay him $1M? again, the "1st game" excuse applies but i see $1M of value already if he doesn't completely fall off a cliff

MacD was awesome.

Best 4th line in years but 3rd line is kind of trash.

MacD was awesome. I'm glad to be looking completely wrong about him. He looks to LOVE filling the Greene role.

Didn't really notice Brown either. He was rather tame tonight.

That I agree with you on. He was just kind of there. There were a few times he looked like he was going to go nuclear on someone then just turned away.

Few guys might be overthinking right now imo

They had younger guys they wanted in the lineup.

I don't think the Kings have that benefit of the doubt anymore. One game doesn't make a season, but they have to prove that they're good again. Part of the reason management hasn't done anything in the last two summers. They've been burned by this roster a few times now.

And that's fine, but we won, we just didn't win good enough I guess. I understand even being nitpicky to an extent, but just enjoy a two-zero shutout ffs. You would think we got stomped in a loss here. Jonathan Quick channeling 2012 alone is nice to see, never mind Toffoli getting on the board, the fourth line being manimals, and new d-men working their way into the lineup and looking good doing it.

Could we give the opponent some credit too?

We were one crazy Neuvirth save away from praising Iafallo and Kopitar in one breath. We shut down a PP that went 3-for-5 vs. one of our nemeses last night, shut out a team that scored 5 goals, while barely getting our legs under us.

If everyone looked that godawful in a 2-0 win, imagine what we'll do when everyone stops sucking!
