Missed the game, but accurately called the score. Brother texted me while I was out saying he went to the bathroom for a minute and came back to see a 2-0 deficit turn into a 3-2 lead - wild game!

Nice to see Petey on the board, and a goal from every line. You can see from the highlights that the counter attack from this team is much better from a structural perspective than last year - it’s a theme that’s been touched on since the start of camp, and it’s been cool watching it play out in action this year so far (even if it’s only in the highlights like tonight).

Saw Debrusk with limited ice time - I’m presuming he did not get his motor going. In theory his best fit in this lineup was always with Miller, but the dude needs to hustle out there and grind in the corners for puck retrievals. If he plays like a souped up PDG, he’ll grab a lot of ES points on the Miller line.

Also huge props to Bains getting his first goal - I was at a party with a bunch of Punjabi people in Ontario and the whole place went nuts as soon as he scored (even though they’re leafs fans). Really cool moment.

Was gonna @ you for calling the score lmao. Good one.

Splitting up the teams best line and keeping the teams 3rd best line. Ballzy. ;)

When Forbort and Joshua come back they should send Juulsen and Aman down if they need to send 2 down.

Bains has more long term upside and Brannstrom is just better than Juulsen.

JDB-Miller-Boeser
Hog-Petey-Garland
Joshua-Blueger-Sherwood
Heinen-Suter-Sprong
I agree but it sucks for Heinen after he's developed real chemistry with his line mates.

I'd put Joshua with Suter and Sprong just until he's back to game shape and then reassess

Nothing like having a 4th line of Heinen, Suter and Sprong tho.... that's wild

Bains is likely the odd man out when Joshua is back (assuming Sprong doesn't piss off Tocchet by then).

Makes more sense to have him play in the A instead of sitting in the press box.

Let Aman do that "job". Aman also provides more positional versatility if someone gets hurt.

My ideal line up currently:

DeBrusk - Miller - Boeser
Hoglander - Pettersson - Garland
Joshua - Blueger - Sherwood
Heinen - Suter - Sprong
Bains, Aman (if he can stay up)

Hughes - Hronek
Soucy - Myers
Brannstrom - Desharnais
Forbort

Demko
Lankinen

True but I suspect Tocc will continue to swap out Sprong and whoever on and off.

I like how a few of us, @Mr. Canucklehead and myself being the loudest, saw Sherwood in the Nashville series and demanded the Canucks sign him. I've never been happier and I'm married with 2 kids.

I feel so damn good about this signing. I think once we knew that Quinn Hughes felt the same as we did, that we were definitely on the right track. Guy is everywhere right now.

It's funny cuz I didn't really notice Sherwood in the Preds series. But I honestly am hyper focused on the Canucks when I watch and only notice the other teams players if they are absolutely incredible or absolutely awful.

Ie. The only Penis who stood out for me last night was Malkin a couple of times.

Pettersson wasn't excited enough after he scored.

Nashville looking for a C.

Stammer + for EP??? :naughty:

:sarcasm:
Stamkos was such a bad signing. Guy is essentially just a PP specialist now. He's never overly impressed me beyond his shot either. Kucherov and Point are far more versatile and better players. I'd argue that I used to notice Palat and Johnson more than Stamkos beyond the PP before...

When Joshua is back. How will the lines go???
actual gf-ga 5v5
Sherwood-Blueger-Heinen 4-0
Debrusk-Miller-Boeser 2-1
Hoglander-Pettersson-Garland 2-2

Current 3 most common line mates.

Leaves Joshua, Suter, Bains, Sprong, Aman.
Joshua is a slow starter. Ease him onto the 4th line and let him work his way up the lineup. I could see him eventually develop chemistry with Sherwood on a 3rd line that no one wants to play against.

I think we haven't really seen the fanbase properly understand that the Canucks are in good shape to start the season, because when they look at the standings, we're in 7th place in the west. Looks unimpressive.

But I mean, the team has literally only lost one game in regular time. It's deceptive, because we've played less games than literally every other team in the league. There are teams 4 or 5 spots ahead of us that have lost 3 regulation games already. The fans need to chill and stop wringing their hands for once. Save it for when things are actually dire. We should know the difference by now, especially after some of the crap we've had to sit through in the last 12 years.

Seriously. One regulation loss in seven games lmao. We'll be fine.

A win is a win but this may not be as impressive as some post.

This was what is called by NHL players a scheduled win, enough so it is talked about how much a team has success in one as being noteworthy.

As a goalie duo there was no comparison, Pittsburgh's guy was simply not good.

For one minute and 5 seconds Pitt had a brain freeze.
That is hard to cheer about as being a complete game or domination.

Pittsburgh is not a good team and they were tired.

A very slow start for the Canucks and if not for the Penquins taking penalties the start could have been even worse.

But a win is a win and you take the points

Every line scored today which is a great reflection of their scoring depth

In many ways, last night’s game encapsulated the first game back from a road trip.

The Canucks didn’t have their legs in the first period..found them in the second, and sleepwalked through most of the 3rd.

Good teams find a way to win..it wasn’t pretty, but the Canucks are demonstrating a good trait of finding ways to win, when they’re not at the top of their game.

The Nucks have been doing fine and they haven't even put it all together yet. It takes time for the newcomers to get into the groove. Guys like DeBrusk will be fine. He'll be even more appreciated come playoffs. Sherwood, though, has been an absolute home run signing.

Sherwood and Joshua gotta be on separate lines, with jtm and to a lesser extent garland and hog, every line won't be fun to play against and can score.

Canucks have the depth and luxury to ease Joshua into the lineup. Don't necessarily have to plug him in the top six and expect him to hit the ground running.
