If we want to win a cup then we should aim to improve it. I've wanted us to sign Riley Sheahan the past 2 summers for cheap. He's useless going forward but is a big excellent Pking Center. Upcoming FA on league min for Buffalo.

Get him and Ullmark in for cheap and send Fred down where he belongs

It's not that I don't believe you - I was surprised to hear that response, though. To me they look so lost at times when a man-down, that the issues don't seem as simple as GOALIE.

EDIT - Saw your post above. Where are you pulling those numbers from?

Frame of reference is one of the big things that suffers when someone doesn’t supplement the eye test with stats (or alternatively watch unrealistic amounts of hockey). It turns out that all teams look lost sometimes on the PK. The fact that Leafs do at some frequency is not a signal that the Leafs are bad on the PK, what signals if they are bad on the PK is if they look lost more often than other teams on a consistent basis.

Andersen's numbers on the PK are historically bad.

As far as I can tell, if the season ended today he would end up with the 2nd lowest save% (.786) by a Leafs goalie in a season (min 100 pk minutes played) in modern recorded history, only eclipsed by Toskela's .778 the year he was shipped out in disgrace. Of course thats only with the Leafs and Toskela actually finished the year at a sparkling .788.

Another way to look at it is that if the season ended today, Andersen would have the 5th worst save % on the PK among all NHL goalies (min 100 pk minutes played) since 2007. Dont want to do the math but thats roughly 5th worst out of close to 700 goaltenders over that stretch on a PK that doesnt give up many shots or chances.

Outside of Andersen, the Leafs PK has top 10 in the NHL numbers.

It’s 20th overall. That will kill you in the playoffs. Freddy to blame so it will be interesting to watch with Campbell in there.Dubas likely can’t afford the luxury of watching it further and needs a penalty killer or two likely

We need three relentless honeybadgers. Give Marner less PK,not because he suck, he is great , but its better to have him being his best on first line. Its a stupid risk to put all eggs in the Marner basket. If hes hurt , worse on PP worse on PK worse 5 on 5. Even if he is a Swiss Knife its better to sharpen the knife then to use all the tools he got at once.
