For all the people that think it’s stupid to suggest we could miss the playoffs, at what point does saying that not become stupid? What is the threshold?

If you’re gonna call that stupid then I expect a counter answer on this.

Tell me. At what point does it become not to stupid to wonder if we’re headed for a complete tailspin?

If we get 1-3 points in these next 4 (including today) is it still stupid?
If we don't get 8 points before the end of the month I'd start to wonder if they're a WC team.

The goalies were bad, but so was so much else about the team. And some of those things have thus far only marginally improved. The point is that the goalies were scapegoats for ignoring other problems.

Why is that a hard concept?

Literally not one person said "the only thing bad about the team in the past were the goalies". You are inventing that in your head.

Who the f*** cares that the Panthers last year lost 10 of 15 games? I don't watch their every game, I can't speak to how they were playing during that stretch or any of the context around it. Maybe they were playing well but just had some hard luck for a while?

This team is playing like f***ing dogshit for an extended length of time.

May I also point out that this core has yet to prove a goddamn thing, beyond being able to squeeze out a series against a highly flawed rival two years ago. So I really just don't give a damn about comparing them to a core that went to the Final two years ago and won it all a few months ago.

The bottom 6 was actually better than the top 6 today. It definitely needs to be upgraded, but the defense being a complete black hole offensively kills this team’s attack capabilities.
yeah they were definitely better. but there’s no finishing ability there that’s the problem

I’m just trying to spread positive vibes now. I really am hopeful we look back on this in March or April and realize what a good adversity exercise this was for the players and fans. I really really do.
You know what, I vented after the game cause it 100% pissed me off, but I don't doubt this team's capabilities. Quite the contrary, I believe in their game and know they can give more than this.

I am pretty confident we will be thinking about this stretch in a few months and laughing, but right now it's frustrating as hell to watch them play and seemingly shoot themselves in the foot nightly.

Also, everything is going against them.

"strength of schedule" in hockey is meaningless lol I don't understand why you guys look at that stuff.

This isn't the NFL.
The strength of schedule stuff doesn’t factor in stuff like travel and rest which is a big part of the NHL schedule.

(well some of them do, but not the ones people are citing here).

what had the Vegas core proven before they made the Finals? oh right, they didnt exist!

what had the Chicago team that had missed the playoffs (I think) 9 of 10 years before they won the Cup the first time proven?

what had the Florida core proven before making the Finals 2 years ago?

weren't the Avs one of the worst teams in NHL history before shortly later winning the Cup?

you don't prove anything until you do. What happened in the past has no bearing on the 2024-25 season.

How long do we excuse Jack turning back into Kovalsuck 2.0 for the second year in a row after Christmas. Last year the excuse was the shoulder, this year the excuse is a virus he may or may not have, what’s it going to be next year?

Oh I see...so what should we have inferred from the vast majority of posts incessantly going on about goaltending and how the team would be a contender if they just got "average" at that position while the myriad of other issues only got minimal attention?

I don't really give a shit about semantics and "are they a contender or aren't they". Literally every team that makes the playoffs is technically a contender for the Cup.

All that matters the rest of this year is that they need to stay healthy and they need to bring in some reinforcements at the deadline. That is literally it. They are almost locked into the 2-3 matchup.

Jack Hughes has better defensive metrics than Kovalchuk would ever dream of. He had a bad game and has been bad in OT. His defensive game has been excellent considering the type of player he is. There are stars that don’t give a whiff about that side of the game (Ilya Kovalchuk).

I mean come on now. Yeah the Rangers have flaws but that’s a team that went to the ECF in the years before and after that series. Came back from down 2-0. They fought back and got by the best goalie in the game who was absolutely lights out. This core does have that experience to fall back on.

Of course we don’t compare this core to the Panthers who have proven they have what it takes. We’re clearly not there yet but who’s to say we can’t eventually? Wasn’t exactly an overnight thing for the Panthers core either. It took some kicks at the can to finally take that step. It’s a process and it’s not always an easy or fun one.

I see people are beginning to turn on the superstar we have lmao.

Guys, Jack makes stupid decisions. It happens, but the risks are part of his game. When he's on, he's on and putting up huge points.

Hes taken huge steps in his defensive game this year, hes getting better. Going through a cold patch does not change this
