Value of: Getting Vegas Golden Knights to take another player from your team

My guess is Habs protect
- Price
- Weber, Petry, Beaulieu
- Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Pacioretty, Danault, Shaw, Byron and Radulov (once signed to a new contract)

Which leaves Plekanec, Emelin, Hudon, and maybe Mitchell as the most interesting options for Vegas. While it would hurt to lose Plekanec, it is what it is.. I wouldn't really offer anything to keep him. Unless Vegas is interested in like a mid pick which i doubt

Buffalo has and extra pick in the 2nd and 3rd rounds in the draft. I'd be willing to part with a 2nd and 3rd for a player of Buffalo's choice as Vegas' pick.

Fleury for a box of Vegas hats.

Just kidding, if the Pens still have Fleury on their roster by then, something went wrong.

I think they'll take Cousins from the Flyers.

I'd offer them a 4th and 5th not to take him and instead take Read or Laughton (even though I want to keep Laughton)

On a slight tangent... I think it may make a ton of sense for Vegas to trade their top-5 pick for a good young player who could play next year for them. Especially in a weaker draft year where guys are likely 2-3 years out.

Bieksa waives for expansion or bought out. If we don't find a deal trading away of our young defenseman for a good young forward then we protect

Getzlaf
Perry
Kesler
Rakell
Silfverberg
Cogliano
Wagner

Fowler
Vatanen
Lindholm

Gibson

Offer something like a 2nd and a 3rd round pick or maybe two 2nd round picks for them to take Vermette instead of Manson. Vermette could provide a veteran presence to Vegas for a short while and be traded at trade deadline for pick and or prospect.

I'd offer a pick so they don't take hudon, or protect hudon and pick so they don't take byron. Whatever is cheaper

think the Leafs have room to spare on the protection list... not too worried about who would lose.

maybe Leafs throw a pick out there just to take Horton or Lupul's contract if they're trying to hit the cap floor but that's about it.

by next summer Lupul has 1 year 5.25 cap hit but only 3.75 salary. Horton would have 3 years at 5.3 cap hit but only 14.1 real dollars. Of course either of these only make sense if they're grabbing cheap guys and are concerned about hitting the cap floor.

I think the NHL is going to put in some interesting rules blocking teams from trying to circumvent the expansion draft. They'll want Vegas to be the most competitive they can be from opening night.
A couple that I've heard of
1) No future consideration trades before the entry draft lottery
2) No players can be traded back to their original teams before the start of the 2017-18 season.

The Oilers will probably protect RNH, Draisaitl, Eberle, Lucic, Sekera, Larsson, Klefbom, Davidson* and Talbot(8+1) Davidson is a wildcard. If he has another setback and doesn't rebound this season they might expose him(if he plays 18 more games) and keep either Maroon or Pitlick

So Maroon, Pitlick, Pouliot, Kassian, Fayne, and Brossoit will be available

Preds will protect 4+4, so:

Forsberg
Johansen
Neal
Most valuable of Arvidsson/Smith/Wilson/Jarnkrok

Subban
Josi
Ekholm
Ellis

Rinne

One of Arvidsson, Smith, Wilson or Jarnkrok will likely be going to Vegas. I don't see us offering much to offset that.

4th rounder

for

*Vegas agrees to take Bitetto*

In 2000 draft, Nabokov protection cost was:

Wild
3rd + 7th + Sutton (crappy AHL prospect turned into roster NHL D)

Jackets
9th + Caloun (coming off 1.6ppg trip to Finland. Went back to Europe after 11 games)

I think that would be insane. It may be a weaker draft but there will be star players, also I am of the mind Vegas needs to start trying to get C as soon as possible, preferably a big one since they are in the west. It would have to be a big young centre with #1 potential for it to make any sense and I do not see a deal like that coming, even if they only manage to draft a guy who will be a very good #2 C it's a piece they are going to need. Not to mention it would be a public relations disaster not to be drafting in the first round in their first draft.

I have to assume offering picks for a team to take specific players during the expansion draft is cap manipulation.

I think offering 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks will be of little interest to Las Vegas.

They want to build a competitive team so they can put butts into seats. Picks of this ilk often don't even turn into NHL players.

This thought process seems unlikely and unrealistic IMHO.

Exposed: Methot, Lazar

Vegas definitely takes Methot unless Ottawa convinces them to take Lazar. I'd certainly give them a pick or prospect (not one of the top 3 though) for them to take Lazar over Methot.

I think Raffl and Cousins will be protected. Laughton is running out of NHL games to show he deserves to be protected.

Read and Weise won't be protected.

I dunno. Available center depth looks like it's going to be pretty poor...
