I suppose if the Canucks wanted to throw a dart at the board with a blindfold on, they'd consider bringing in Brock Nelson.

At 33, he's probably not the center he was on the Island. But as a two-season 'stop-gap' he might work. Can't imagine his contract would break the bank either.

Unless we overpay, i dont see why he would come here. Dont know much about this player but i do notice he does produce the majority of his pts 5v5. So he aint no PP merchant which i hate.

Maybe Brock Nelson becomes the forward version of Tyler Myers? For whatever reason, at 34 Myers looked like he'd discovered the 'fountain of youth'. More likely, he just responded better to the defensive system put in place by Tocchet and Foote.

But maybe at 33, Nelson has something left in the tank? Last season split between the Islanders and the Avalanche, he put up 26 goals and 30 assists. Certainly decent 'second-line center' numbers.

Granted the Canucks would have to probably overpay to bring him here, but maybe he accepts a shorter term, three year contact, if the annual number is right.

And unless he hits the wall offensively, he could at least help the Canucks buy some time until they can either draft or trade for another center. More importantly, he's insurance in case Chytil goes down again.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

this is what F ed us over the past 10 years.
Too true.....but on a positive note, Brock Nelson is a far cry from Jay Beagle and Antoine Roussel.

And the salary cap is eventually going to hit $95m. So the only way this blows up in their face, is if Nelson's production were to fall off a cliff. Could happen--but I doubt it.

But unfortunately that's about the only kind of guy the Canucks might be able to convince to come here. Otherwise, they'll just have rely on likes of Raty and Sasson--and hope they can raise their games from AHL.

I do believe there is a market inefficiency on certain older players that are perceived to be over the hump and as a result actually get undervalued because they are still pretty decent, especially on a short term contract. Dallas has been exploiting this market for years.

This is absolutely true. It always surprises me how some players hit their 30's and just keep on, keeping on, while others fall off a cliff. As much as you detest Cory Perry, he' still getting it done in Edmonton closing on on 40.

I suppose as players get older, it all comes down their injury history and the diligence of their off-ice training. Seems to me the Sedins, with their legendary off-season training regimen, could easily have kept on playing for two or three more seasons.

I know next to nothing about Brock Nelson--or how much time he's missed with injury. But he's listed at 6'4" and 205 on Hockey DB. So he'd least bring some size and snarl down the middle.

If I were the Canucks--I'd be willing to kick the tire on him at the very least.

Voted 'Other', but that could easily change.

My preference depends on a couple things - namely, FLA manages to retain Bennett on a palatable deal, but they get outbid on Ekblad. The other thing is, management is confident that D-EP can play his off side, making him and Hronek the long-term top 4 RDs.

VAN offers FLA a deal around Willander, receives Lundell as their new 2C.

:dunno:
Would love love love lundell. But that seems a pipe dream unfortunately :'(.

He's signed to a sweet heart deal through his prime and is referred to as baby barkov. Probably want to keep them together.
