Pauli were unlucky to leave that first half without a goal, and got punished for it when their keeper flubbed a longrange shot from Amiri and the rebound was pounced on for the 1-0. But Mainz earned that win in the second half and the Burkardt-Weiper duo up front are showing developing chemistry.

Sucks that they lost Gruda before the season. Having Brajan feeding Joni, with Nelson as a spearhead for those two to play off of, Mainz could've been a ton of fun.

Score feels unflattering after that flukey opener changed the momentum, but BVB deserved that 2nd goal.

Would be fair if we could pull one back before the half though.

Bayern decided to unilaterally end contract negotiations with Kimmich, who's not starting tonight away at Stuttgart. Bayern to be fair is suffering a lot in midfield without him, possession is 50/50 and Stuttgart are 1-0 up.

Hoeness can't be happy with Jeltsch and Chabot in that first half, whose lack of speed has been exploited by Bayern, but I don't recognise any centre backs on his bench.

Bayern's attack is a lot more dangerous with any other combination of midfielders...Goretzka even having a resurgence after seemingly being kicked out the door. Kimmich wants too much of the ball and just slows the attack down far too much. Too many touches, too long on the ball, too many backwards and sideways passes. The possession numbers look great but the defense has all day to set-up.

Will be interesting to see if they hold firm and let him walk. I'm doubting it, but it would be interesting to see.

Like I get not wanting to run as much and wanting to be more involved in build-up play, but it's wild to me that Kimmich hasn't just moved back to RB for club as well as country.

When Pep appoints you as the man and some treat you like the next iteration of Schweinsteiger, it's probably a tough thing to let go of, even for unegotistical types.
