Trade: George Pickens to DAL

I just read on the ESPN site that if Pickens leaves Dallas after this season and signs a Free Agent deal for more than his current $3.6 million cap hit then Dallas will likely get a 2026 3rd round Compensatory pick and if he signs elsewhere for less than a $3.6 million cap hit ( which is highly unlikely ) then Dallas will likely get a 2026 4th round Compensatory pick. So either way Dallas really didn't give up much to really upgrade their #2 WR spot. Nice job Jerrah. :thumbu:

It's a rare great trade for Jerry.

That's not how comp picks work in terms of the threshold.
Minny got a 3rd for Cousins because of the amount he signed for. They would have gotten a 3rd for D. Hunter as well, but that got offset by their signing of Houston's DL Greenard.

Typically, you are looking at a contract that averages $20 mill range in order for a team to be awarded a comp. 3rd. There is only a small number of them each year.
This 2025 draft there were 3 award for losing a player.

Minny for Cousins. Miami for Wilkins, Houston for Greenard (his deal from a Minny POV offset what they could have gotten for Hunter).

$3.6 mill is more like a 6th or 7th round pick comp.

What StreetHawk said. The Steelers are currently projected to get a 4th for the contract Fields signing with the Jets, but it could turn into a 3rd if Fields maxes out snaps and his incentives. Similarly, Wilson's 10.5m deal is currently projected as a 5th, but could hit a 3rd if Wilson maxes out snap count and his incentives (which would bring the deal to 21m).

Not that a comp pick isn't quite possibly on the table for Pickens, and if he behaves and doesn't get injured it'll probably be a 3rd, but 3.6m isn't where that line starts. Nowhere close.

And, ngl, I will be laughing long and hard if he goes full Diontae and there's no comp pick at all.

You guys might be right - I can't find that story about possible Comp picks for Pickens anymore on ESPN. :dunno:

Should have moved him earlier. Surprised they did not given that they gave up their #2 for Metcalf. Should have been in a position to try to secure a #3 by moving him.

No matter where he ended up, no team was going to give him a new contract walking through the door. Not with his inconsistent levels of commitment.
