Absolute legend. An total beast in the 70s and while slower in the 90s he had become a much smarter fighter and was still a beast. Amazing career and an iconic personality.

I remember him waving some tiny US flags in the ring in Mexico City during the 1968 Olympics. I believe that was after winning the Gold Medal.

That was after the Harry Edwards inspired incident and a response to it.

I couldn't care less about that. Foreman and Edwards were/are both great people.

George Foreman was not a great person. He was a known wifebeater and he had at least three women accuse him of child sexual abuse, but their lawsuits weren't resolved before his death.

Almost all the big boxers from the 70s and 80s were wifebeaters (Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Leonard, etc), nobody cared at all back then. Not that they care even now; guys like Mike Tyson are still beloved despite being a literal serial rapist and admitting to laughing about beating the hell out of women.

The child sexual abuse stuff with Foreman didn't come out until these last few years, though.

That's definitely disappointing to hear. The spousal abuse is a lot less surprising than the child abuse and unfortunately that problem extends to other sports than boxing as well as Hollywood actors and obviously a lot of men who aren't famous too.

Ali married a 16 year old girl that was groomed for him by the Nation of Islam, then beat her, then cheated on her with another underage girl, then married another underage girl that he first met when she was 12, beat and cheated on her.
