Anyone ever think about how crazy it is that all of the most recent generational all time greats (Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, McDavid) all ended up playing with other all time greats (Messier + Coffey, Jagr, Malkin, Draisatl (on his way to being an all timer especially if he wins another Hart this year) organically ( they were drafted by the team, didn't sign with the team because they wanted to play with a great player?) Like what are the odds of that happening by chance? Gotta be 1 in a million or smaller.

Stuff like this makes me think we're living in a simulation.

Funny you ask “what are the odds” when half of this was determined by literal lottery balls.

Jagr engineered his way to Pittsburgh because of Mario.

Crosby/Malkin and McDavid/Draisaitl happened because the Pens and Oilers repeatedly picked at the top of the draft.

The only one that was unlikely is the Gretzky/Messier/Coffey trio. The Oilers went through a convoluted process to have Gretzky, and the other two were just good draft choices.

Insert drafts were rigged comment here for Edmonton, pit, Blackhawks, etc

Not aware of the jagr story just know he was drafted by Pitt, how did he engineer his way there?

Regardless of lottery balls the odds of drafting players that good are very small. The odds of three teams drafting players like Gretzky, McDavid, Crosby and also drafting players like messier, Draisatl and Malkin are very small wouldn't you say?

He told the other teams picking in front of the Pens, he wasn't going to come to NA. All the while telling the Pens he would, bc of #66

OV did not, so not all. He is truly a unicorn.

I would totally put Jagr as generational. He was the best player in the league for many years, sometimes head and shoulders above everyone else. Guy was scoring 127 pts when everyone was doing 90 and he had zero legit partners.

Like we said the generational players were all playing with all time greats but Jagr had no one after mario retired and he was still the best of his generation.

4 straight years leading scorer of the league and many more where he was at the top.

True. To me the biggest un-likelihood is that the same team that drafted Gretzky also drafted McDavid, AND the same team that drafted Lemieux also drafted Crosby. The odds of those two sequences happening in tandem are kind of crazy.

Somehow I hadn't even thought that but yea that makes it even crazier. Like legit the odds of that happening twice to the same two franchises has gotta be 1 in a million
