Was excited about Ottavainen after his 34 points for CV last season, but I see he’s got none so far after the first 4 games. Hopefully he’s a slow starter and not feeling some sort of post-camp letdown?

The roster has totally revamped. I don't remember who he was paired with last season. A lot of AHL vets seemed to have started slow. I think the vets are likely to take more time to adjust since the team lost a lot of vets and is much younger

Winterton 1G
Morrison 1G
Nyman 1G
Ottavainen 0P

On the other hand prospects I though would take a bit to get used the pro game seem like they are doing alright

Sale 1G 3A
Nelson 3A
Firkus 1G 2A

I am a little surprised by Goyette's slow start and him not getting more time. Started the first 2 games with 0 points and has not played since.

I'm similarly surprised that the latter group of prospects is producing so quickly. That's where the upside is so I'm fine with that tradeoff.

Pretty impressed by Catton in today's game. Been in on 3 of the 5 goals so far. He has done a pretty good job protecting the puck in board battles. He can't use his size but uses his skating to make really sharp turns to keep the puck away from the defenders. He also blocked a couple of shots and generated turnovers.

Make that 4 points today. Another great defensive effort. Put pressure on their skaters in their zone, generated a turnover and led to a ENG.

I think this kid will be a very good NHLer down the road. He needs gym time, and the normal maturation process, but he sees the ice really well.
His vision is elite. I know it's a long shot, but if he focuses on putting on some muscle this off-season, there is a small chance he gets a few games in the NHL next season before being sent down back to juniors.

It is unfortunate in a way because I don't know how much more he can learn in juniors. He is likely to end up close to 2 PPG this season when all is said and done.

I think regardless of what league he is playing in, most of the maturation will come from gym and other off ice training.

It would be nice if Catton was with our staff doing weight training in Coachella. The AHL has a great schedule for that with the weekday breaks. Those WHLers spend too much time on busses and have too many games.

Caden Price (Kelowna) looks so damn good. Watching him play against Catton (Spokane). He scored a great solo effort goal to put Kelowna up 1-0 before Spokane equalized. Catton looks solid. He almost always generates chances when he is on the ice. Has looked as the best skater on the ice through the 1st period. His main issue seems like his linemates fumbling his passes or not being able to connect with him.

Price was one of the better players on the Rockets yesterday as well. And he is actually a good skater. Catton made him look silly, but I think that speaks more about Catton than Price.

Another few prospects to watch are Loshko, Jugnauth and Caswell. All have had really good starts to their seasons. Caswell, who we drafted in the 5th round this season, leads his team in PPG with 27 points in 15 games. Luke Mistelbacher, who went undrafted has 1 more point but in 2 more games. Tied 2nd in the team for +/- so it has not been at the expense of defense either.
