OT: General OT Thread #44 - The World is Still Turning

That should end up as the annual trophy for a league (sportsball, fantasy, etc.). It's better than a lot of the random college footballs rivalry trophies.
We had a huge trophy that got voted on yearly and then sent from one recipient to the next. It was for biggest asshole of the year and was affectionately referred to as the NAAOTY (North American asshole of the year) trophy and commonly pronounced “naughty” lol …. One Canadian who won the vote refused to give his personal info to receive the trophy and other Canadian members who were familiar with his area discovered his full identity and the trophy got forwarded to him. He was irate when it showed up and I believe he dispatched with the trophy and disappeared for a few years 😂

Because Silo and Severance are done for a bit and Wheel of Time and Dope thief are spoon feeding us episodes like it's 2001....started a rewatch of The Wire. What a show. Top 3 of all time, easily

I think I'll go on a Reacher binge with the wife this weekend.

Couldn’t wait a week for The Last of Us season 2? :sarcasm::laugh:

I liked Reacher #1. #2 was a bit slow and his acting is...........................................

He stays pretty true to the Reacher character from the books. A Big and strong (6'5" 250lbs), super smart, introvert. A modern day take on the classic Western Lawman archetype.

I like the Tom Cruise Reacher movies, but he's nothing close to the book character (same complaint I have with him as Lestat in Interview with the Vampire).

Season 2 was just seemed lacking in the onscreen chemistry to fully draw me in. I don't know if it was the writing or the cast.

Something was off with #2. Maybe I just had too high expectations. Probably the writing. Saw Cruises movies, never read the books.

New Mexico has some really nice natural beauty or whatever you wanna call it, but the towns and cities all pretty much suck.

Arizona is more diverse from a landscape/nature perspective and has a lot cooler areas, and it has some really nice towns and cities too. It's like New Mexico but better in every way. Even if you don't like Phoenix, there are several others towns or cities that are nice to live in, big and small. The only thing missing in Arizona is a hockey team.

Indiana has...well I went to a Skyline Chili there last time I drove through, so that was a +.
Dragging this over to the OT thread to be more on topic.

I was a Rio Rancho/Albuquerque kid. The Balloon festival was the highlight of every year. I need to get back out there to see it one of these years.

I have extended family that live in Arizona that always post gorgeous scenery. My goal is to go out to California at some point to explore all of the amazing areas they. Maybe I can drive down and stop in Arizona along the way.

New episode of Wheel of Time. Very, very good. The (2nd) battle of Emonds Field is a great part of the books and Perrins character growth / arch. Excellent episode devoted entirely to it. I didn't think we'd get any better than the Rhuidean episode. But we got it. This show f***ing rocks.

Minor complaint book vs TV ... too many dark friends on the other side. Pretty sure it was a straight trolloc / fade army. Padan Fain is getting screwed here, his character is sooooo much more complex than a straight bad guy.

Perrin FINALLY gets his axe.

Really great casting for Faile.

Went to Iceland to pick up some trophies last weekend. Beautiful country in quite a lot of ways, albeit didn't get to see too much. I like the people. Not a fan of the prices, but that's understandable given their location. Hopefully I can visit again one day with more time.

Also, closest I've ever been to Minnesota :D

I think I created a monster. I got the wife one of those flat top grills. Now she's telling me I need to make a home with a roof for it on the side of the house so she can cook on it when it's raining. Something like a garage, but not the garage we already have, because it's icky, dirty, and full boy things.

No. It needs to have her cooking stuff, some girly decorations, maybe with a fridge, some lights, a comfy chair to sit in, has to have wifi, and ventilation. So my dumbass goes "so you want a sheshed that has everything except the kitchen sink?" So of course, now she wants a sink in it too.

This grill has now become the adult version of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

We have our own pope in Sweden. He is #1 in the US album chart this week with his band Ghost.

The wife made me go to Target to get their exclusive record. No clue why it's exclusive.
Your wife is just awesome, I hope you know that. How much was it? I assume it was a vinyl. Post a picture of the cover, just curious to see if I can figure out what is exclusive about it.
I'm hoping you're gonna take her to their concert when they play in St Paul.
They are touring Europe right now and they have banned phones in the audience. Good thing IMO.

She wants to go see them this year. She's seen them several times in concert. My ears don't allow me to go to concerts anymore, so she'll take the kid I think.

Here are the pics she just took.

Brilliant. The exclusive is all the bonus stuff, the overlay and slipmat. I like the Target version with the purple vinyl the most of those I've seen so far. Probably around 45-50 bucks. Your wife clearly knows her stuff.
Bonus points for the dog cameo in lower corner.
Love it.

Should be named 'Gross'.

I don't get it. I don't understand the draw. They do absolutely nothing for me. They opened for Maiden a few years back. Was expecting that maybe the live show was what got everyone into them. It was mediocre at best. Help me understand. Because, I don't.

For me, it's a combination of many things. He's a brilliant song writer and he has a goofy sense of humour that I appreciate very much. He doesn't take himself too seriously and he's just an overall nice guy. Humble and down to earth. That goes a long way for me. Growing up in Sweden we did get a lot of ABBA on the radio when we were kids, and he's got that same melodic quality in his songs.
He sort of put the ABBA in Black sABBAth.
Musically, if you don't get it, you don't get it. I can fully understand that. They don't sound what they look like for sure. Maybe try out some of their earlier stuff? If you like Mercyful Fate, which you don't, then you might like that more.

Here he talks a bit about his influences. I enjoy listening to him nerding about music, I think it's worth 15 minutes of your time to watch this clip to help you understand his vision of what he wants Ghost to be.
