OT: General OT Thread #44 - The World is Still Turning

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
Not liking things so far, but will be patient.
Yeah, need patience. Not HF's fault those hired to host the site failed to do their job. Management is pretty angry at them to say the last. Cleanup will take time. At least we didnt appear to lose any threads in the data recovery, though i had 9 pages of thread prefixes to fix here...

What really sucks, is the new account data completely lost over the last year!

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with this. If they're asking people for money, and taking in ad money, they should have a proper backup plan.
"Well XenForo had it covered" isn't a proper backup plan. They should have some sort of software that backs up to offsite data.

That money goes to paying for hosting/ server services. HF has never owned servers to store data. They rent server access. Always have since the beginning.

Doesn't matter WHERE it's going. People are paying for the service of the site being up and running properly. That requires having a proper DR plan in place.

Guess you're gonna have to become DigitalTrenin.

Someone said we could try to get the sponsor status back, correct? Assuming ads on mobile are unbearable still if/when they are back

At least dark mode is back. Was an unpleasant surprise to open HF at night (as per usual, given I tend to wake up for games) and promptly get flashbanged. Not in the pleasant way either.

I've been waiting for this report. It pretty much confirms what the watering hole speculation has been.

Landing gear issue of some sort, plane tilts to that side, wing digs into the ground, plane flips. It happens on occasionally on small planes.

Egg prices have dropped from an avg of $8.17/dozen a month ago to $4.90/dozen now.
It's about damn time.

Not sure which thread was the most appropriate for this, but it looks like the Xcel Center is looking for ~$770M for renovations; looking towards taxpayers for half of that amount.

I just don't understand why taxpayers have to pay anything for stadiums. It's not like we get a discount when we try to go watch something.

"Hey, I'll pay to help build this."
"Yay! I still have to pay to go to said place to watch something I want to watch!"

Surely, there has to be a better design for this.

MN residents who are paying for this should get half off tickets till the debt is repaid.
