Movies: General movie news thread

This is a funny idea to me. Similar to past ideas about a Die Hard origin movie. The first movies in these series ARE the origin movies for these characters. Their lives before the first movies are not important. It's what happens in the first movies that makes them their characters.

Rambo origins is just a Vietnam movie. Die Hard origins is just a New York cop movie.

I'm sure they'll 100% do both of these one of these days and they may very well be successful however illogical I think the premise is.

Just something that's funny to me.

I can’t believe there is going to be another He-man movie. I do recognize a good number of the cast, namely Idris Alba, Leto, and a few others.
But, is there enough interest in this IP for it to do well given the budget for cgi? Did the animated Netflix series under Kevin smith do well?
Netflix wanted to keep their live action version at around $150 mill. MGM Amazon is now doing the film. But, at a $150 - $200 mill budget, looking at needing between $375 mill to $500 mill to break even. that seems pretty lofty expectations for an 80's IP that people under 25 likely know very little about.

It's due out this Friday, May 23. Not sure if I will watch it on the big screen or through streaming in the summer. Haven't seen an in-theatre movie in a long while.

Yep, that's how it is for movies these days in terms of theatre viewing.
You go for:
1) Sound and visuals for an action movie
2) It's an event, like a lot of the MCU movies and Top Gun, Oppenheimer, Barbie, etc.

True, last Alien movie, was reeeally good on cinema, on TV different story.

Lionsgate was worried about the budget.
As any studio should be these days. Budgets can balloon out of control if not dialed in. Highlander though, not massive CGI or visual affects. Logically, should be able to keep the budget in check.

The He-Man movie is going to need CGI and already reportedly the budget is $150-$200 mill.

Most movies these days, to break even at the box office, is roughly a 2 to 2.5 multiplier on the budget.

Another Henry Cavill production, Voltron has finished filming.
guess it should make those of us who grew up as pre teens during the early to mid 80's feel like we grew up in the best era, with so many of the tv shows we watched ending up on the big screen.

Transformers, GI Joe, He-Man, Smurfs, and upcoming Voltron. Plus others like Paddington, dungeons & Dragons, Inspector Gadget, Jem (which bombed),

Voltron's going to Amazon Prime Video.

And we know what he does with the figures after he's painted them...
