General Drafted Prospects Thread

Can we call it a flood of CHL prospects heading to college yet? NCAA surely getting better hockey now?
CHL is going to be a 16-18 year old league soon with regards to NHL prospects.

Majority of top end guys getting dtrafted out of the CHL are going to be heading to the NCAA in their 18/19 year old seasons

Playing less games against older players in i guess an even better league now is the main reason? Is it surprising how many choose that way? I wouldve thought it would be a tougher choice.

pretty great life style playing hockey at a major school and imo it is a more pro style game and will move more in that direction. For the older players leaving it gives them more opportunity and for the 18 year olds it allows combining school with hockey earlier

Great 18 y/o season for Dickinson... Strong athleticism, tremendous skater and a great frame to pack muscle on .. he is going to be a beast.
He is almost a full year younger than Yakemchuk .. It will be interesting where he ends up next season. Ton of potential but the NHL is a big step to play D at 19. SJ will have a tough decision. Dickinson imo could benefit with a year in the NCAA or in Europe since the AHL is not an option at his age. Calgary is in a similar position with Parekh.. but Parekh is ready and able to QB a NHL power play even though Team Canada somehow left him off their WJC-U20 roster.

ICYMI

nb: Winning CHL Defenseman of the year does not guarantee anything going forward

Dickinson can’t play NCAA, he’s already signed his ELC with San Jose

Really not liking this shift to the NCAA. While I do think it's a great thing for 20 year olds leaving the CHL to have an NCAA option, I don't like it for the younger kids. Should be some sort of rule that you play 3 years CHL before you're NCAA eligible. That way most kids will play one post NHL draft season in the CHL before moving on.

But it's probably not doable at this stage of the game.

Not sure how it's all going to shake out, but I think this is going to kill some of those Jr A leagues.

I could see the NCAA essentially killing the CHL over time. Most teams won’t be able to compete with the facilities that the major schools have, the college experience is super attractive to kids and parents, and there will be some lucrative NIL opportunities for a lot of players.

I really hope not. CHL is a great league with a ton of history.

Parekh and Dickinson getting recognized for their stellar D+1 seasons.. Both would be entering their 19 y/o seasons if they are returned to their junior teams.
Yakemchuk already played his and many categorize his D+1 season as disappointing. All signs point to NCAA product Buium playing for the Wild next year.

Of note Misa, Cristall, Parekh were all left off the 2025 team Canada U20 team

Wheeler's picks for 1st ,2nd, 3rd teams ... spoiler alert Yakemchuk isn't listed
