Providence Bruins General Discussion thread ‘24-‘25 II

Skating is always fixable. We've seen it countless times. His skating stance coming out of junior was like Mitch Marner and the Leafs fixed his, but it took time.

It's ironic you mention Marner when I see Poitras skate that is exactly who I think about.

Skating be worked on, but can they change his stance significantly? I guess they can if the Leafs were successful with Marner. I find Marner still has that leaned over stance although I really can't compare it in my head to what it was like when he broke in. . Maybe make some adjustments in Poitras stick length and lie would help, help him get a bit more upright, a small adjustment.

Who do we want back?

Wahlstrom RFA
Merkulov RFA
Farinacci RFA
Kuntar RFA
Mitchell RFA

Nelson RFA
Misyul RFA
Bavaro RFA

Callahan Group 6

Pitlick UFA
Tufte UFA
Lettieri UFA
DiPietro UFA
Bussi UFA

Abate AHL deal

I'd qualify the first group though Merkulov is probably gone and Kuntar most likely wants out

2nd group I let go

I'd re up Callahan, the rest of the UFA's will probably seek greener pasture
Is this the year that Brian Pinho is finally a Providence Bruin?

Current available roster in random order
Lysell Poitras Duran
Harrison Minten Viel
Locmelis Schmaltz Bancroft
Brown

Brunet Mast
Johansson Wanner
Edward Sweezy
Gallagher

Zero goalies

Obviously need 2 goalies, 1 Veteran D, though they'll probably sign 2...
Hopefully Poitras and Minten are promoted leaving big holes with the forward group

And then there's Lysell....

Would think they would want to bring back Mitchell and Wahlstrom due to the lack of depth on the right side at forward and defense. They would also likely retain one of DiPietro or Bussi, no?

They probably would, but either might look for opportunities elsewhere, especially DiPietro. Bussi may not have suitors beating down his door after the year he had when he was supposed to be making the next step. I agree with Mitchell and Wahlstrom, and probably qualify and re-up Farinacci and give him another year. Callahan will hopefully be back, and having one of Pitlick,Tufte,or Lettieri sign would not be the worst thing for veteran leadership down there and break glass forward depth.

Speaking to someone in Merkulov's agency, his hope is still the NHL and not the KHL.

Lysell is just going to be a disappointment. Not that he doesn’t skill, it’s his compete level that is so bad that he was even sat in the AHL playoffs for a game. Even after playing in the NHL it didn’t motivate him. It’s a big missing component to his game.

I thought Potrias was good. Still needs to get stronger but definitely has the playmaking ability and hockey IQ. Him being used in the bumper on the PP just shows the lack of scoring threats because he should be one a side using his playmaking abilities to find shooters. One of the reasons I want Frondell so bad. We need another shoot first player.

Minten was ok. But there is nothing in his game that screams top 6. He also needs to get stronger and faster. Could end up a really good dependable third liner, just not seeing top 6 upside though.

Be interesting to see how they round out the rest of Providence. Tufte seems like a good vet and call up. He played well in the playoffs. His skating really is the only thing holding him back. The rest are all plug and play would t care much either way.

if Lysell played with half the heart and will that Poitras plays with, he`d already be an NHL regular

Did you go to any of the games and watch Lysell live?

I didn’t go to the games I did buy flosports so I could watch the younger players. Lysell has maybe one or two effective shifts a game. His consistency is so all over the place. He definitely doesn’t have the chops for any defensive responsibilities, so he has to be a consistent offensive threat and he just hasn’t been able to do that either. I am sure next season is basically his last push to show something so hopefully he takes off season seriously and really sits down with himself and ask “do I really want to be an NHLer” and drives hard to accomplish it and develop consistency.

I went to a few

It’s not his drive/motivation that’s a problem, it’s the monkey bouncing around in his head

I know you do. I thought the monkey's name was Divver.

Gotcha, misinterpreted your post

The monkey is a metaphor for him having a million thoughts on once. The same issue he had coming up is the same issue he has now, but his raw talent covered for it more when he was younger.

Once he learns to keep it simple and just use his wheels and natural talents to hunt pucks, shoot pucks, and get pucks to NHL talent, he’ll pile up points.
