Providence Bruins General Discussion thread ‘24-‘25 II

It was clear heading into the playoffs what the P-Bruins' Achilles' heel was. They have probably the best goalie duo in the league. Their forwards are absolutely loaded. But their D was lacking in depth. They had two ECHL nobodies (Millman and Ortiz) who, granted, they played well during the season, were question marks for how they would perform in the playoffs. And they had Misyul who I've been critical of since he arrived. Sure enough, it was the defense corps who couldn't stop handing the puck to Springfield (especially in the 1st period) resulting in both goals against. Ortiz in particular was a turnover machine (and took a penalty). The loss of Sweezey (and even Regula & Oesterle) really hurts. Mougenel should definitely insert Wanner for Game 2 (I was surprised he was scratched) and I'd even consider Gallagher as well.
On the bright side, the PB's outshot the T-Birds by almost 3-to-1. If you can keep up that level of play, you're going to win 90% of the time. Kudos to Colten Ellis for making some big saves (and somehow only got the third star lol). The broadcast said he was 5-0 against us during the reg season -- so the Bruins are in trouble if they can't solve him soon.
A first round loss (especially a sweep on Friday) would be a huge let down as this is the most talented Providence roster in recent memory IMO.
Only watched the second but the defense looked bad. I did not see them beat one forechecker not one.

Yeah their defense is pretty bad. Besides the defensive end, the offense end there is absolutely no movement. Just up and down the boards. Too predictable.

I don’t see the same offensive upside. Brunet is good all round but lohrei has better passing and stick handling. In a couple years Lohrei might put it all together and be pretty nice power play weapon.
Hope Lohrei can improve in the defensive end. The ability to play sound defense is critical.

If Lohrei doesn’t improve the team will be better with a defenseman who is better all around. There are other options for an effective power play.

Lohrei passing skills are to the opposing team. Grossly overrated player. Brunet will be in Boston soon

I hadn’t seen any responses to my inquiry so I looked it up (I can be so reliant on our group here - I never look anything up).
Yes, round 1 is best of 3. Lose tomorrow and they’re done.

I hope that one is on YouTube as well. If someone can post the link prior to tomorrow’s game - I would appreciate it. I’m too lazy to look it up myself.;)

I actually hope for him, he doesn’t sign. I think he’s earned a chance at an NHL job and it’s going to take an injury to get it with the Bruins.
Not necessarily. The B's could swing a trade for Korpisalo for future picks, save some cap space and give DiPietro a shot

Best of 3 is stupid.

I have serious reasonable doubts that the Bruins could swing any trade with Korpisalo. And that’s assuming the Bruins even have any desire to.
Well Korpisalo's agent has informed Sweeney that his client is amenable to a trade if he can't get more playing time so we'll see what transpires.

Ortiz has been a disaster so far. Awful turnover in the crease that hit the post then a penalty (his second in as many games). I don't understand how the coaches could have watched him in Game 1 and said to themselves "we should put this guy in the lineup with our season on the line". Unless there are undisclosed injuries, Wanner or Millman should be playing ahead of him. Hopefully their season doesn't end because of him.

First half of the second period is all Springfield. DiPietro standing strong.
0-0

The second half of the second period saw the Bruins have some prime scoring chances from Minten and Mitchell, but they could not break through Allen.
Still 0-0 after 2. Shots are even at 18 a piece.
