Providence Bruins General Discussion thread ‘24-‘25 II

I've been following Locmelis for years.

I knew he was good and he was instrumental in the Latvian bronze medal run. At the time, in those few games at the Worlds, I have to admit I wrote off some of his passing and scoring to sheer luck, but we are now seeing the exact same thing from him every night for Providence.

I think he might actually be the real deal.

On that note, I was looking for AHL rookie scoring records. Dans is scoring at a 2.00 ppg rate and has 12 points in 6 GP.

I could not find a single instance of anyone scoring at a higher pace in AHL history to start their AHL career.

Justin Abdelkader had 9 pts in 7 GP
Joe Pavelski had 14 pts in his first 9 GP
Joshua Roy had 12 pts in his first 7 GP

He’s off to a white hot start but mixed in was two of the worst teams in the AHL this year, Hartford and Bridgeport (15-50-4).

Sure, it's just 6 games, but no one has done it before.

Joe Pavelski was the only one to keep up a similar scoring pace over 16 games - and he never played an AHL game after that. Incidentally, he also began his pro career in AHL after 2 years in NCAA.

I'm hoping Locmelis gets at least 4-5 more games in with Providence.

From Mark Divver: Rinkside Rhode Island

Mike DiPietro was named an AHL First Team All-Star on Thursday. He’s the first P-Bruin goalie to earn that honor since Niklas Svedberg in 2012-13. DiPietro finished with a record of 26-8-5 with a .927 save percentage and a 2.05 goals-against average.

Can DiPietro be a legitimate back-up in Boston next season?

They have to sign him first. I hope they resign him.

Where is Merk? What’s up with Kuntar? Some had him projected to make the bruins last fall.

Made a couple of nice plays, one of which led to a primary assist or even a goal in an exhibition game to go along with a couple of good bodychecks and immediately fell victim to SNTS, which in predictable fashion never resulted in being called up to Boston.

Just looking and noticed DiPietro had 25 wins in 40 starts. Obviously not the be all end all for goalies but is there more to his game than a AAAA goalie?

Is he worth a shot for a team in need of goaltending?

Yes, worth a shot as the backup at league minimum, would hope it's in Boston over Korpisalo

Does Boston have any better shot at him than the rest of the league with his upcoming UFA status? They never gave him a sniff this year even with the full tank on and him lighting it up in Providence. I have to think he's looking for the best contract and opportunity possible and not sure Boston can offer either.

I would offer a 2 year 1 way league minimum deal, don't think anyone would beat that , at best they'd match it
I just want Swayman and Korpisalo gone and may not be thinking clearly
