I do agree it was silly to give Brown 15 games in the NHL this season when he was doing jack$hit in those games (1 assist) and there were younger players who could've benefited from the NHL experience. Though having him in the lineup did help with the tank (4-D chess?). But you seem to be conflating NHL Brown with AHL Brown. They are two completely different players IMO with significantly different production/contribution/value to their teams. AHL Brown does it all...scores, generates offense, plays solid defense, PKs, net front on PP, wins board battles, you name it. AHL Brown is a key piece in Providence who this team will need if they plan on a deep Calder Cup run (which they have the roster for this year).
