Providence Bruins General Discussion thread ‘24-‘25 II

I will watch both Latvia and Providence in the playoffs.

Here’s a question. Is Locmelis the Bruins most promising prospect? Top prospect?

that's a tough question now because of the results but I think in terms of ceiling you probably still have to go;

1.This year's draft first rounder
2. Lysell
3. Poitras
4. Minten
5. Locmelis

Who actually ends up being the best player in the end remains to be seen but I will say this, Locmelis has the 1st or 2nd overall best chance of becoming successful long term, competing for that card with Minten

A few weeks ago I would've definitely said no but he's in the mix for top prospect now imo.

Concubine Brown on the 2nd line with Viel is a choice...
Guess you missed the "in no particular order" part.
It's kind of disappointing that there hasn't been any update on Merkulov and when/if he is expected to return. You would think there would be more info on the guy who has served as the #1 center for most of the season.
Other than that, I would be hesitant to take Wahlstrom off the Poitras line considering how hot they have been lately. I would also probably put Lettieri with Farinacci and Lysell while dropping Tufte to Minten's line.

That line has 2 guys with 46 points in 55/58 games, and viel who has 37 points in 67 games while playing rough and tumble hockey. That is a Very good AHL line
I'm talking about Brown specifically. He's not the future. I would like to see our rooks instead of him. I don't care how many points he has this year. I wanna see Georgii back. I want to see these young guys we have.

I like Viel.

I get it, but Viel is every bit not the future as Brown is. And honestly I don't think Georgii is the future, as i expect he is in Europe next year, or in the AHL somewhere else. Plus as OTV says, Brown is the captain.

You want the young players to get a nice long run in the postseason. The way that is putting the best players on the ice with them, and Patrick Brown is an excellent player at the AHL level

Viel serves 1 purpose. And that is to protect the kids and be an enforcer. Especially in the playoffs which I appreciate.

And yes, Brown does produce at the AHL level. But I think it does the kids a disservice because I don't think he's a good hockey player.

But that's just me. I just hope this is the year they finally get over the hump. They've got a stacked team finally. I wanna go far.

I still remember going to games and meeting Wacey Rabbit. Providence Bruins legend.

Merkulov is a ufa who i doubt they resign. I don't think you will see Brown or Merkulov here next year.

You are correct, I thought he was group 6 for some reason. I still don't think he will go back to Providence, can see him playing in Europe.

Personally think he’s KHL bound (or Europe). Think Providence has found replacements with Locmelis (for example).

Sucks he never got a legit chance but what are you going to do? Move on and replace him.

I think you're under-selling Viel a bit. He isn't a fourth line goon (in the AHL at least). He was 7th on the team in goals & points and generated his fair share of offense.

Brown produces...but is a bad hockey player? I'm not sure how that makes sense but the fact of the matter is Brown increases their chances of winning. Winning is good for the kids. Thus, IMO, Brown is good for the kids (as long as they aren't riding the pine in favor of him...which hasn't been the case thus far). And by kids, I mean the top ones who have a reasonable chance of making it to the NHL (i.e. not Harrison, Kuntar, etc. who had difficulty cracking the lineup every night).

I've seen enough of Patrick Brown at both levels of hockey to say he sucks as a hockey player. Sorry. He just is what he is. He's a AHL guy. Vet guy. Yes, hes got the C. And hes a nice guy. Good down on Prov. But he's just there, for me personally. I just didn't appreciate when he got called up first over other rooks. Which happened this year. Future looks bright with some of the kids though. So I'm excited. No disrespect to Brown. I just don't enjoy watching him.

Also, never said Viel is a goon. But he's a 4th line guy. But that's his purpose. I love 4th line guys who can chip in. He works hard. Takes no shit. I actually want him up with the big club next year if there's an opportunity. I like his game. And I enjoyed watching him when he got called up to the big club. I actually think he has a future with the Bruins next year. Especially with the roster influx.

As long as the kids aren't riding the pine in favor of him, yeah fine let him be. But it does still make me chuckle seeing Patrick Brown practicing on line 2. That's all.
