I see the Flyers got Dorwart:



He's top of most of the UDFA lists this spring. Not sure what he'll be, a lot of UDFA of late have been more of a good AHLer variety, but he's now a Flyer.

Marjala and Strbak and Sardarian next please. I'm OK with Miedema as well, whether he plays ECHL next season or back to junior.

Huglen and Constantini for AHL deals, if the organization even wants them.
 
Man, seeing what Cole Hutson is doing really makes that Malenstyn trade sting. Could’ve had Buium + Hutson in the draft last year. Overkill of LD prospects but jeez, what studs they are.
 

Sabres Keen to Sign Jake Richard​

Jake Richard has taken the winding road.

Drafted in the sixth round back in 2022, the 6-foot-1 winger returned to the USHL for his draft-plus-one season before joining the University of Connecticut, where he has played the past two years.

This past season, the 20-year-old broke out. His 43 points in 34 games represented nearly a 250 per cent increase from his freshman total of 18 in 36. And because of that extra year in the USHL, he has the option to return to UConn for a third season and test free agency in August 2026 if he chooses.

Sources indicate that the Sabres are making a strong effort to sign the Florida native. However, it seems Richard has not yet decided on his future. With numerous young forwards in the Sabres’ organisation, spending another season at UConn could provide him with a wider array of options for launching his professional career.

I love Prospal's bluntness:

“With Rosie, it’s all about mindset in my mind,” Prospal said. “It’s all about a willingness to do the little things on the wall, to engage in these battles a lot more because the offense is there. The skating ability is there. The offense is good. Now be a driver. Bring the f— you attitude every game. Say, ‘I just don’t want to be a point guy, be the all-around player so when the Sabres call up to me I’m not a liability in the D-zone or on the wall.’”

" Isak Rosen just turned 22, so the 2021 first-round pick is getting close to the point where he needs to show he has what it takes to break through in the NHL. He’s been one of Rochester’s best players this season with 55 points in 58 games."

I has said this about Rosen in the roster thread just a day or two ago. I wonder if he gets traded and carves out a career like Armia. Armia was drafted to be a scorer but managed to carve out a career as a defensively responsible 3rd/4th line player.

“It has been difficult at times. The adjustment for my tastes has not been as smooth. Lately, it’s been a lot better because maybe the realization is setting in. A lot of these young kids, the 18-year-olds, highly drafted, they are believing in their own way is better,” Prospal said. “I do believe the way Konsta showed up here, maybe he felt he was going to teach us the hockey here. Now he’s recognizing that has not been the case."

That doesn't sound good about Helenius. He had a very good start to the season so I wonder what happened during the season? Sound like at some point he got put in his place.

Helenius draws contact and took some big hits earlier in the year. He hit the wall around the time of the U20's. He wasn't initiating contact, he was presenting himself and putting himself in positions to go through a hit and people were just pounding on him. When Ostlund took off, the other part was Helenius was down lineup and not producing much at ES. His powerplay production has been good but there is a need for consistency still which one would expect out of the youngest player to start the year in the whole league.

The quote from the article made it sound like it was more than just on ice issues. It does sound like Helenius came to training camp with an attitude and not a good one.

Not saying you are wrong just that maybe there is more too it. I was surprised to read Prospal said that when Helenius first came to camp he thought he was going to teach people how to play hockey. It kind of stood out for me.

It sounds like he didn't come to camp willing to learn the North American game and listen to the coaches.

Issues with preparation and rest, nutrition, and hydration, treating it like a job instead of treating it like something fun to do in the morning or evening. All of those things are also possibly why it wasn’t sinking in. He is only 18 and you’re describing some really shitty things to a player and we don’t know that that’s actually the case.

Back and reread it go back and reread his quote. He talks about 18-year-olds thinking that the way that they do things is what works. That screams preparation, which includes things like rest and nutrition and hydration. You’re describing everything to attitude and there’s nothing in there that says anything about him having a bad attitude. That’s why I think your tag is wrong.

If they continue to keep the relationship cordial and make sure he feels important to their future, there should be no problem. If Kev gets bound up in some sort of childishness about wanting to be somewhere, instead of acting like a personnel professional, I could see this going sideways. And if the talk involves assurances about a late season game or such to burn an ELC year, so be it. Good teams can do it, Buffalo should be able to as well. It's not like they already don't have a grasp on what guys like Rosen can do in 7-8 minutes a night.
