Excuse my ignorance as I’ve taken a hiatus from HF boards for the most part over the last year so I’m out of the loop on some things — but why have I seen mentioned in a few different places about the idea or concern that Johnson won’t sign? Is that just empty speculation or are there legitimate reasons or evidence to suggest it may be an issue (beyond perhaps him seeing a stacks LD behind Power & Dahlin and perhaps Samuelsson)?

The worry is mostly due to Cal Peterson playing through his eligibility and going to free agency. Now every decent college prospect or better we have leads to a segment of fans worried this will happen again.

Once the worry starts they begin to talk themselves into why it’s certain to happen.

someone talk me off the ledge about owen power. I assumed Luke Hughes would eventually prove to be the better player, but I just didn't think it would become so obvious after only 3 weeks.

Dude, you are already really tired, you get one negative about and without, why are you even on these boards? Luke Hughes scored the same number of points in the first 4-5 games as Power, and you already write such nonsense as "Well, I knew that in 10 years he would be the best player." You yourself are not funny to carry such nonsense? Yes, you have no idea what will happen in a year or five with these guys, which of them will be better and how will affect the franchise, do not play as a genius scouting, you can't.

Stumbled across this twitter handle this morning, I really like the way the prospect info is organized and thought I would share.

I wasn't sure where it belonged so I just resuscitated this old thread.

Could these links be stickied to the top of the general prospect thread; they're absolute dynamite.

So what if Hughes is the better player? Power is going to be a good/great player in the NHL. He's going to be a minute-munching top 4 defenseman who will be rock solid. He and Dahlin will anchor our top 2 pairs for 10 years and in big games the two of them will eat 50 minutes combined.

And also -- what is "obvious" to you isn't necessarily obvious to others. Your hatred of Quinn is well noted. Your hatred of the Reinhart trade is well noted.

I think this is a case of: Just because the Sabres didn't do what you wanted, doesn't make it bad. I desperately wanted the Sabres to take Wallstedt or Cossa over Rosen -- but I'm not calling Rosen bad. Gotta have patience.

But all of Hughes’ points are primary assists or goals, whereas 1/3 of Power’s are useless secondary assists. And Hughes is younger. Therefore he’s better :sarcasm:

Is Luke Hughes a one dimensional player or his he a shut down defensemen as well? As of point standings he leads over Power with 1 extra goal.

Also, can't stress this enough, but Portillo was vital to the win last night. He was excellent - Michigan relies too much on PP production and WMD took it to the Wolverines at 5-on-5 most of the time.

I get it, but... 1 goal and all 5 assists are secondary assists (4 on PP). Pointless in his last 3. We haven't even talked about his plus minus! On ice for 4 even strength goals for, 4 even strength goals against.
True I haven't watched him play, but those are numbers, so look at them!

People who watch games say he looks solid.

I like Power but I think winning the 1st overall pick was a curse due to the fact it made us absolutely chose Power over Eklund. I've been seeing articles from the Westcoast praising the Sharks on picking one of the most slept on talents in the draft and I'm over here thinking Sabres were quite vocal on him being the best in the draft while sitting at #1.

Eklund is proving very capable at the NHL level, its kind of a down feeling after such a good draft (IMO), the only player I would have taken over Power is Eklund.

Power's points being most secondary and on the PP is concerning considering Dahlin will probably be quarterbacking top PP

You're wrong

I just saw the top 25 under 25 over at Die by the Blade. My goodness.

Here's my top 25 prospects

Power
Peterka
Quinn
Poltapov
Rosen
Samuelsson
Levi
Johnson
Portillo
Ruotsalainen
Lukkonen
Murray
Kisakov
Laaksonen
Weissbach
Pekar
Bloom
Fitzgerald
Nadeau
Rousek
Sardarian
Lyckasen
Novikov
Huglen
Cederqvist

Those 25 all have a shot at NHL or NHL/AHL tweener (15F, 8D, 3G). Don't see much point in ranking the rest.

That's the most important part. Points are fickle over short time periods.
Definitely, but before the draft I hadn't expected Power to be a good score player in the NHL. I think a top pair guy with #1 potential who will be solid at both ends of the court and play 23-25 minutes per game in all situations and score 30-45 points. It suits me fine.

Be pissed off that we couldn't move up from the Rosen pick to get Eklund (i think they tried). Don't be pissed off at drafting Power - it was a no brainer.

That Sabres video indicated that they tried everything they could to. I think that Reinhart+#14 offer Adams made on the phone was to move up for Eklund but SJ or whoever he was talking to that drafted before SJ said no.
