OT: General College Hockey Talk

Whoa. There were murmurings but I am definitely surprised. The murmurings also took it as fact that Brian Hills (long time assistant under Wayne) was in line to take over. Time to drop by the old discord.

Shame Wilson had to be handcuffed with no scholarships for most of his career, but he also seemed to be very resistant to the transfer portal and NIL so maybe new blood will be better going forward.

Certainly a good sign that no one (aside from someone who probably wouldn't have made the team next year anyway) has hit the transfer portal yet....

That went about how I expected. WMU has just been such a good team this whole year.

And now the roster churn starts again...the one issue with always recruiting guys who go pro after 1-2 years.

How about being a 4-goal scorer in an national championship game!?!?

Also, good to see you AV. Hope things are well with you.
I am taking this as payback for BU beating Northeastern when I went to Boston for a game earlier this year.

And I’m well and I hope you are too! I’m always lurking around here; just rarely feel like posting.

Broncos! Man, I thought they were a house of cards when they cracked the top 5 about 1/3 into the season. I thought Maine was the team that would be here tonight. After 30 years of following college hockey I still don't know caca.

Hats off to BU for going this far. They really pivoted after it was looking like Ohio State was going to dominate them

Kalamazoo is only 2 hours from where I live. I should drive over and witness the ensuing orgy in the streets. I'm shocked anyone graduates from that school the way they party like it's the last night on earth. Anyone in that town could drink most Cheeseheads under the table.

Witnessing a student body celebrating a major national championship is amazing.

Final scattered thoughts on the season:

-My hockey void begins. I have nothing to look forward to in the NHL being a Wings fan with the Sabres as my 2nd fave. Usually the WJC summer showcase gets me through the doldrums but it's in Minnesota this year instead of Michigan. Toronto losing early will bring me some schadenfreude glee...it always does.

-Hats of to the champs. We can add the Broncos to the likes of Providence, Yale, Union and Quinnipiac that people thought would never win a title in the modern era. That's why college hockey rules.

-This tournament was probably the best talent pool ever. Bentley was the proverbial low man on the totem pole but they came in and played well enough to be a contender. The fact that the eventual champs were the only 1 seed to make the FF brings home how great the field of teams was.

-I hope David Carle sticks around as a college coach and we use his name in the same breath as Jerry York, Badger Bob, Murray Armstrong, etc. He's done enough to cement his place as an all-timer, but in the spirit of watching Ovi break the goal record I want to see more legends toppled!

-Speaking of coaches...Jay ****ing Pandolfo! 3 years and 3 FFs. Some ding-dongs might see that as a failure to get there team over the top. That would be a terrible take. Every year he takes one of the youngest teams deep in a tournament that is very hard to win. Think of all the stacked teams from Michigan, BC, NoDak, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, etc that didn't win a title. BU is in good hands.

-Finally, *chef's kiss* to Mike Schaefer. I wish he could have gone out with a title but he cemented himself as an all-timer among coaches regardless. It is not easy to recruit intellectuals that can play but he always got the brainy, brawny guys that were a pain in arse to play.

I am truly sorry. Ouch.

I love catching the U18s but I got rid of the service that allows me to DVR it. So yeah, not as much. ☹️

Honestly, love to see it. Upsets and new non-power take winning is part of why I love this tournament.

Agreed. I would to see one day the ability to expand things. But that takes more good D1 programs. Getting there…

I wonder what NHL team gives him a shot.

Amazing to think his first three years he had that program repeating those visits. Well done indeed.

I feel old for having followed that program for his entire tenure.
