people are overreacting to the seriousness of it honestly. he'll likely get a couple game suspension and community service, if i had to guess.

no criminal history, wasn't drunk/drugged as far as we know, no guns in the whip and no one seriously hurt.

Who do you feel is overreacting?
I think the reporting and charges have been pretty fair so far..
Dallas police appealed to Rice to turn himself in (instead of chasing him down).. they're publicly stating they're not going to charge anyone with the weed found in the Lamborghini.. so far, no charges against other passengers.
To me, the charges seem fair, and Rice's treatment doesn't seem heavy-handed. Who's overreacting to the incident?

F'n idiot was driving 119 MPH. :amazed:

from dallas.news.com:

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was driving 119 mph in the seconds before he caused a multivehicle crash that injured at least seven people last month, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by The Dallas Morning News.

The NFL player faces one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury, police said. His attorney did not respond to a request for comment Friday.

Rice, who officials have said admitted to driving one of two high-end sports cars that triggered the six-vehicle crash on March 30, was booked into a DeSoto jail Thursday after he turned himself into Glenn Heights police. He posted bail and was released shortly after.

Kristin Lowman, a Dallas police spokeswoman, has said the drivers of a Chevrolet Corvette and a Lamborghini Urus were speeding about 6:20 p.m. March 30 in the 6600 block of North Central Expressway, between Lovers Lane and University Boulevard, where each lost control.

The cars “made multiple aggressive maneuvers to get through traffic,” the affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, the Urus and the Corvette “both took faulty evasive action” to avoid hitting a sedan and other vehicles but came into contact with each other. The collision with the sedan caused a chain-reaction crash, the affidavit said, which continued to three other vehicles “in a matter of seconds.”

According to crash data cited in the affidavit, the Urus was traveling 119 mph 4.5 seconds before the collision. The Corvette was traveling 116 mph 7.5 seconds before the collision, but had slowed to 91 miles per hour about 1.5 seconds before.

The speed limit is 70 mph on that stretch of highway. Police wrote in the affidavit that the “reckless” driving put “multiple people at risk of loss of life and serious injury.”

Rice and four other men were seen on video leaving the scene after the crash. Police have said the men didn’t stop to see if anyone needed medical attention or provide any of their information.

Rice’s attorney, state Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, said at a news conference last week that the former Richland High School and SMU star was not trying to run or hide from anyone but didn’t offer any explanation for why his client left the scene.

Former Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook settled a lawsuit in which his ex-girlfriend accused him of battery and false imprisonment in his Minnesota home in November 2020.

currently a free agent

A hearing scheduled for Tuesday was canceled with the case closed and settled, according to court documents.

Details of the settlement were not available.

In a lawsuit filed more than two years ago, Cook was accused of abusing his former girlfriend and causing a concussion during an altercation. In a statement released in 2021, Cook's attorney said his client was assaulted by the woman after she broke into his residence, saying that she later tried to extort him of millions of dollars.

Cook has filed a lawsuit for fraud and defamation against the firm Eckland and Blando, which represented his ex-girlfriend, according to Cook's agent.

from espn.com:

Dallas police will not pursue sexual assault charges against Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, with a police spokesperson saying Thursday detectives determined there was insufficient evidence an offense was committed.

The case stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred in 2017 in which a woman said Prescott assaulted her in the back of an SUV in a strip club parking lot.

In March, Prescott filed a suit seeking monetary relief in excess of $1 million after receiving a letter in January from attorneys Bethel and Yoel Zehaie on behalf of the woman stating they would "forego pursuing criminal charges, along with disclosing this information to the public, in exchange for compensating her for the mental anguish she has suffered. [The woman's] damages are valued at the sum of $100,000,000.00."

The woman filed a countersuit and criminal charges after Prescott's initial filing.

"I want to thank the Dallas Police Department and Dallas County District Attorneys' office for their thorough investigation of the allegations against Dak Prescott," attorney Levi McCathern said. "As we knew they would, they found nothing in their extensive exploration of the facts that would support a criminal prosecution. We are confident that at the end of law enforcement's investigation into the extortion case that they will find the accuser and her attorneys just as guilty as Dak is innocent.

"As I have said from the beginning, Dak is a great football player, and an even better human. He would never assault any woman. These false accusations were brought up seven years after the alleged events for one reason and one reason only -- to line the pockets of the accuser and her attorneys. Their behavior is an affront to all the true survivors of sexual assault."

What an absolute dolt. Had a promising rookie campaign in about as good a situation as you could possibly ask for and has probably thrown it all away. To do this after already having the other arrest is mind boggling.

If and when the Chiefs decide to cut Rice, he’ll definitely get signed to a minimum deal with someone. He’s got too much talent and the incidents to date haven’t been serious enough for him to be “out of football” yet.

But you can see exactly where this is going - - he’s going to seriously injure himself or someone else.

Yet another mental nut job WR.

The charges against Rice for the nightclub incident are being dropped. He still shouldn’t have put himself in that situation (why are you at the club weeks after the reckless driving charges?) but it seemed like the photographer’s story was a little odd after the initial report and other eyewitnesses pushed back against it.

Because he is a young pro athlete, it is going to take more than a little scrape with the law to change things

from espn.com:

Two women are suing kicker Brandon McManus and the Jacksonville Jaguars, alleging that McManus sexually assaulted them during the team's overseas flight to London last year, according to court documents obtained by ESPN.

The two women -- identified as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II in the lawsuit filed Friday night in Duval County Circuit Civil Court -- accuse McManus of rubbing himself against them and grinding against them. They also accuse the Jaguars of failing to supervise McManus and failing to create a safe environment for staff serving the team.

They are seeking in excess of $1 million and are demanding a jury trial.

A statement from McManus or his attorney is likely to be released later Monday, a source told ESPN. The Jaguars declined to comment through a team spokesman. ESPN has also reached out to McManus' agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

The Jaguars did not re-sign McManus this offseason; he signed a one-year, $3.6 million contract with the Washington Commanders on March 14.

"Earlier today, we were made aware of the civil lawsuit filed on May 24 against Brandon McManus. We take allegations of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter," the Commanders said in a statement. "We have been in communication with the League Office and Brandon's representation, and will reserve further comment at this time."
