How was Schremp, not a whole lot of comments about him, even though he scored an EV strength goal while being the 13th forward.

He didn't get much ice-time. He was pretty much a PP specialist in this game, and he scored one of those goals that only goal-scorers can. There wasn't much to look at on Khudobin, yet Schremp fired a laser five-hole. He might get more play against a team like Switzerland.

I'll eat my words on my prediction, and applaud the States on a great effort. I'll give more insight after I get to watch the game tomorrow.

Can ANYBODY who saw the game PLEASE comment on Russia's offensive midget, Denis Parshin, please?

I didn't notice him much. I know he had at least one good scoring chance (he was playing on Malkin's line I believe), but was overall pretty silent. He got tossed at about the 16:00 mark in the 3rd.

I felt he dragged down the rest of his linemates. His passes were frequently off the mark and he just really didn't have it, offensively.

Looked bigger than advertised, though. Fairly quick, too.

My thoughts-

the good-

Phil Kessel-

This is my first time seeing Kessel in person, and I went in with a low expectation. Holy. Cow. For a guy that was only supposed to be a 13th forward, I think he's going to play an important role in this tournament. He has an insane skillset, and at such a young age. I think that in the next couple of WJCs, you're going to see Kessel emerge as one of the most dominant forwards the USA has seen in some time. The LaFontaine comparison fits.

Ryan Suter-

Call me a homer, but this kid is going to be a superstar. He's got crazy vision, and made some huge hits as well. I keep talking about his end-to-end rush where he was slipping through opponents left and right, but the highlight was when he laid out Ovechkin, IMO. Rock solid on both ends of the ice.

Casey Borer-

Didn't know much about him, but was very impressed with his physical game

Fritsche-

Looked like a man among boys. Overall, the US's best forward all night

O'Sullivan, Stafford, Callahan-

All impressive, as expected.

Chris Bourque-

Surprised me with his hustle and puck skills. Pleasant surprise.

for Russia-

Ovechkin- Wow. What a laser of a shot. Everything advertised, and easy to see some Kovalchuk

Shirokov- I can now prove that his antics don't bother me, even when against my team. Another dynamite shooter.

Rykov- The only Russian d-man worth talking about.

the BAD

TJ Hensick and Adam Pineault-

Largely invisible, to me.

Mike Brown-

uh..why is this guy playing and Schremp isn't?

Nate Hagemo-

Mr Brownstone spoke highly, but I just kept noticing him messing up. Hope to see a better performance next game.

Evgeni Malkin-

I think he could use his size better. Didn't play a BAD game..but I was a little disappointed, I guess.

Congrats to Team Usa ! I was not able to watch that game, but from some "recaps" the game was :yo:

Hmmm i´m little disappointed about Malkin :( , but hey it was just one game ! Ovy is tha man  !

I´m still belive team Russia will win this tournament ! Rossija Bperööööööd! Shaibu ! :handclap: :yo:

good game, very exciting to watch, i wish nhl games were more like that. i know their were different issues at the time, but how were osullivan and fritsche not 1st rounders, clb and min got steals in the 2nd round. iv heard people bash chris bourque on this site for months now, and i can honestly say he was one of the best players out there, he doesnt stop, plus he looked bigger on tv then i thought he would, and didnt shy away from any physical contact. i would love to see kessel and schremp play on a line together like some of the power plays, kessels speed is amazing, and as far as people on this board sayin he is 5-10 160 and isnt physical, well he dint look that way to me. i saw him go into the corners and crash the net many times, and is definitely 6-0 185 what hes listed at. i agree about mike brown, why is he on the team let alone getting a regular shift, i wudda rather seen t fritsche, hennessey, or earl over brown. the defense looks shakey with their coverage at certain times, but suter is a stud, cant wait till monday nite.

One more thing. Watch out for Phil Kessel. He didn't get on the scoreboard tonight, but he had a few rushes that were breath-taking. He's been likened to Pat Lafontaine, and I can see why. He has a burst of speed that I haven't seen in an American-born forward prospect since Mike Modano.

The Kessel/Lafontaine comparison is right on. I was REALLY impressed with this kid last night. Its an exciting time for American hockey right now with the influx of some great young talent - finally.

Chris Bourque completely impressed me. The kid had a motor that wouldn't stop and his size didn't slow him down at all. Martin St. Louis definitely came to mind when watching this kid.

Just a side not on Bourque. Doug MacLean was saying on his radio show last week that Bourque was the last forward chosen on Team USA. Apparently he was chosen over Tom Fritsche b/c of his ability to play the point on the PP. As much as I would have loved to have seen Tom on the team, I've got to give credit to the selection committee after seeing Bourque play last night.

did Radulov getting regular playing time?

He had a few shifts, but very limited on what appeared to be the fourth line. He had a scoring chance, but was stuffed by Montoya. I would estimate 5-7 shifts at the most, but I could be wrong.

I wouldnt call that quite laying him out. He caught Ovechkin and the end of a shift trying a fancy move and stood him up, to which Ovechkin just fell over. Still a solid defensive play however.

My impressions of the U.S. team in this game:

The Good:

As for Russia, Ovechkin and Malkin are probably the most physically mature forwards in the tournament (with Jeff Carter and Anthony Stewart) and it showed.

Don't forget Olesz. He's as mature as almost everyone there.

BTW, Kessel was great. He's gonna be good. I wish I could see Frolik play. :(

I must admit, I love watching the Russians play! They're winning me over. No one impresses me more then Ovechkin. That guy is unreal, I mean his explosiveness makes NHLers envy NOW! Malkin took control of the game when he wanted and he appears to have added bulk since the last tournament.

Phil Kessel got more play time that I invisioned. I didn't expect him to skate over Schremp but he showed everyone what he's about. He is an excellent skater, and the kid works extremely hard. He also has some great moves, but his speed is elite. He was very impressive.

I think Bourque silenced all the critcs witha that game.

Another thing, Ryan Suter, I might be rough on the guy but man he played a great game, He took control of that game. He went end to end on Russia then came back extremely hard from behind Russias net all the way to his blue line and laid a guy into the boards. He was very impressive.

It was good to see Montoya play well in the third and now he can build on something.

Do you guys think Corey Schneider well play vs Belarus on Tuesday?

I think Schremp should play over Weller in the next few games. Drew Stafford also played really well.

GO USA!

It was an exciting game. I do hope we see more line changes for Team USA.
The team is loaded with highly skilled players and only a hand full of players had significant ice time.

Of coarse they were invisible, Hensick and Pineault saw very little ice time. Both are highly skilled, played on the same line for 2 years on NTDP out here in Ann Arbor and I was rather disappointed that they did not get more ice time. Both are scorers. Hensick is fast and Pineault has a bullit of a shot. Not sure why some players were out most of the game (Bourque) while others sat. Hope we rotate our lines in the games ahead.
