To you who are actually watching the game: Any relativly objective report on what you think about the swedish team is very welcome!

It's stupid to be from another country and sit there and boo the other one who's not even PLAYING their country yet.

They must still be upset that their team lost the gold medal. Not that the US won it, since they didn't of course ;).

It;s just dumb to heckle a team of kids.
Well, it's a tough situation when you think your country is the greatest at something. Face it, it's a great time to be a Canadian hockey fan, they really have an amazing program there.

But when everything is said and done, Canadian fans are going to have to come to grips with the fact that every team is beatable, especially in single game elimation.

Well, the Americans beat us last year at this tournament, so whats wrong with heckling? The US has the trophy my country wants.

Well...that type of behaviour is childish and stupid. Typical of people with low self esteem. Unfortunately, it is also common everywhere, including among the Finnish fans.

I prefer positive support, i.e. supporting my own team, instead of gloating/heckling/whatever

Both teams look pretty evenly matched, though the swedes appeared to get pretty winded after that PK.

The USA is doing themselves well by keeping the puck away from Montoya.

Good period, not thrilled about what looked like a pretty obvious goal(from one angle) being called back, but the team responded well. Borer, Suter and Hagemo are getting the job done defensively...Likens..well, I hope he plans to wax Montoya's car,b ecause that was his goal, not Al's. Kessel having another great game, and Schremp is flying...albeit a bit snakebit when it comes to hitting the net, it looks like. It seems like the Swedes held the early momentum,b ut since the first goal(the one that was called off) the USA has controlled the play.

To be fair, he's made some decent stops, tonight.

Of course...they're stops he should have been making all along...

Both teams are playing pretty well, with the exception of the breakdown leading to the Eriksson goal, and Rautio's absolutely atrocious play resulting in the US goal.

Absolutely. It's embarassing how many Canadian fans have been acting, especially given just how weak that group was.

the official must have had a pretty good angle on the puck, given he didn't even review it. My guess is that it probably wasn't a goal.

Sweden is playing with alot of intensity. Their scoring lines have been effective and have gotten alot of chances. They were outskating, out hitting, and just outplaying the US for the majority of this first period. I'm very impressed with Nilsson, Salmonsson, Eriksson, and Soderberg. Rautio was also very solid, especially on the US powerplay late in the first.

Even though I haven't seen the incident, is it possible that the ref called off the goal because of something OTHER than the puck not crossing the line, like a player in the goal crease or something similar?

i agree nomore..likens continues to be brutal

and to the swede fans your top line is looking strong...strong on the puck, able to cycle down low and has generated several good scoring chances

A positive surprise actually. Team Sweden has showed up today, that's for sure. They have plenty of energy and seem to have pretty good confidence in themselves too. The game has been very entertaining too, apparently unlike the Finland-Czech game (which I missed).

hahahahahahah Rautio pulls a Montoya :lol

1-1 .. should be 2-1

Heino-Lindberg please!!!
What you must consider is that had that first goal/no-goal counted that play wouldve never happened, so Its a 1-1 game either way.

Nah, there was no one close. Kessel fired a laser that Rautio seemed surprised by, he bobbled the puck and it went behind him, appearing to cross the line, but it was hard to tell because he immediately slammed his glove down on it.

Ok :)

In any case the 1-1 goal came shortly after so no harm done really.

Nope

The puck looked to be going in, may have even been in, but Rautio put his glove on top of it ...So there in no angle to know if the whole puck was in .. because you can't see through the goalie glove in the net, and the whole glove was not accross the goal line...

why isn't this broadcasted on swedish tv again? I ****** hate swedish television. WJC is much more interesting than world sucking championships.

I would add; The swedish forwards are creating a lot nice things but they really need to capitalize. Sevral times they've done everything right but couldn't even get a good scoring chance. If I was the coach I would tell them to shoot more often, and in the upper part of the net.

The defence is playing ok, but too often they lose 1 on 1 battles, mostly because of the american forwards speed and execution. But they are ok overall... Rautio plays a nice game, exept for the fluke goal.

lots of suspect icing calls against both sides in that period, then hagemo getting hogtied and nothing called leading to a 3 on 2,then the no review(whether it was a goal or not)...swedes goalie mad ea bad mistake due to pressure coming on the US goal..would have been icing if he hadn't tried to play it...

you basicly summed up what's been wrong with swedish hockey forever.

Team USA is lacking overall intensity and defensive chemistry. They need to come out and play the rest of the game with a deeper sense of urgency. If they look flat, you have to start questioning Sandelin.

Sweden outplayed Team USA along the boards and in the corners for the majority of the first period. That can't happen from here on in.
