Davidson is a much different type of player than Evans.
While Evans is a defensive-first type of player who relies on above average skating to neutralize opponents and be effective on the penalty kill, Davidson’s game lives and dies on his offensive production. Davidson, who lacks Evans’ level of skating ability, plays a much heavier game and has an excellent shot that makes him a threat to score from anywhere in the offensive zone.
In his short tenure in Laval, Davidson’s unexpected level of play and production has presented Hughes with a numbers problem: with so many promising forwards on the cusp of making the team, is there room for Davidson? I would suggest that if Davidson offensive production continues it will be very difficult for Hughes to not include Davidson in his long term plans, particularly with the leadership traits and physicality that Davidson exudes.
