I am not worried at all about Seider, I think he was holding off putting one of his teammates through the boards. I’ll take notice if we are at the end of the exhibition season and he still looks apprehensive

I bet Seider's job to impress the coaching staff was to show he can have restraint when needed and not break his teammates. lol

Every chance he gets he shows he's mostly a liability at the NHL level. He's a guy that looks good in camp/exhibition/the AHL, but just doesn't have the toolbox to put it together at the NHL level.

I don't see Hirose making the team... maybe if Vrana is out.
But assuming Vrana and Zadina and Bert, etc, are healthy, I think he starts in GR.
What i can see, if one of our PP wingers is out, is Hirose making the team and playing on Line 4 in an 11-forward set up.
4-8 minutes at 5 on 5 and then some 2nd PP unit time.

So run 10 forwards basically.

He's 162 and Point is 183. That extra 20 pounds is a huge difference. Hirose got abused in his last NHL stint.

Agree he's below average speed with below average puck handling skills. He sees the ice really well and makes some sweet passes. I don't think that's good enough for the NHL even as a PP specialist. But what you just said is that he doesn't have tools, not the toolbox.
Where did you get 162 from. There's a tweet posted here somehwere. about week ago that the Wings measured him at 5'10" 174lbs

That's what pretty much every site has him listed at. If he managed to gain 10 lbs in the past year then that's great news, but he needs another 10 and he's running out of time.

Eh, not being "fully dialed in" is pretty vague though, I thought he clearly struggled with the speed and intensity of NHL forecheckers today. It's tough to say he "easily controls gaps" when Suter walked him off the half wall today and scored. If that were Cholowski for example everyone would roll their eyes and say "typical."

It's fine, Seider's a great prospect and it's just one scrimmage. But I'm not sure why people have such a tough time admitting that Seider might not be this perfectly-polished player at twenty years old.

I'd rather think that is basic Seider being too smart and not using acts like his killer cross-check on that kind of positions against our own players. We'll see what happens, when there's Chicago guys against. The killing switch is turned back on.

I've seen already many games from him where he does not play as lousy as that. When there's a real hockey game, there will be a real Seider too.

Because one play does not indicate struggling with the pace when he looked calm, cool and collected otherwise. Also the pace is higher in AHL/SHL/WJC/WHC, this was a pretty casual practice scrimmage.

I agree, I dunno if he was even "walked" like everyone says. I watched the replay a few times and it looked like he just mishandled the puck. Probably gonna take a few games to get used to crappy NA ice, always seems the the puck bounces more in the NHL than SHL, and I've have to imagine that TC ice is worse than NHL ice.

I'd rather have him make a few mistakes instead of doing the Ericsson pitchfork every time he touches the puck, but I'd have to admit if that was Cholo....

I thought Hirose looked really good out there. With Vrana and Bertuzzi looking to miss some games, he would be my best bet. We need someone that can produce some offense.

Taco looked great out there, hopefully, he can carry his hot streak from last season over to this season, and can earn some games with the wings this year.

Just don't see Hirose bringing much that Raymond or Berggren couldn't.

From the sounds of it, Raymond and Berggren decision will be soley about their development (unless Mrs. Blashill decides they are ready). Is it better for them to be on the big club while Vrana is hurt, then get demoted when he comes back. Or is it better to give that spot to someone like Hirose, that can be relegated to 4th line/healthy scratch when Vrana is back and can fill into the top 6 when we are in Canada. Then we can call up Raymond/Berggren when they are lighting up the AHL and have a ton of confidence.

I'd base Raymond and Berggren callups to AHL schedule. To avoid their long road trips. Then call these guys up, and let AHL vets have those 10 hour bus trips.
