Hirose playing like he belongs on the team.

I wish we'd have let him play more through his slumps these last two years. Athletically he's pretty limited but he's one of the few creative players in the organization, and I feel like he should've gotten a better chance in a middle six role while we floundered these past couple seasons.

Every chance he gets he shows he's mostly a liability at the NHL level. He's a guy that looks good in camp/exhibition/the AHL, but just doesn't have the toolbox to put it together at the NHL level.

It's not a toolbox issue, he simply doesn't have the size. Soft and undersized players like Hirose and Tyut are going to look good in scrimmages and preseason games where things aren't going to get real physical. Come regular season, the opponents are gonna put them on their asses whenever they touch the puck. Teams literally started running over Hirose, that's why he got sent down.

Its not even about size, he's about the same size as Brayden Point. Its that he isn't fast enough/doesn't see the game well enough to put together his tools. 5'10''/175 isn't inherently a bad size for the NHL.

It's bullshit anyway. He was one of the best players on the team (I know that's not saying much) in some of the few games he played on the Wings last season.

I'm sure he'll adjust, but Seider does look a bit behind the pace today imo.
Can't agree that there's a pace issue. Easily controls gaps, gets to dump-ins and solves forechecks, made plays on the offensive blueline etc.
He just didn't seem fully dialed in, which he doesn't need to be yet. I'm not sure I would say any of the other NHL guys were great either.

He's 162 and Point is 183. That extra 20 pounds is a huge difference. Hirose got abused in his last NHL stint.

Agree he's below average speed with below average puck handling skills. He sees the ice really well and makes some sweet passes. I don't think that's good enough for the NHL even as a PP specialist. But what you just said is that he doesn't have tools, not the toolbox.

Eh, not being "fully dialed in" is pretty vague though, I thought he clearly struggled with the speed and intensity of NHL forecheckers today. It's tough to say he "easily controls gaps" when Suter walked him off the half wall today and scored. If that were Cholowski for example everyone would roll their eyes and say "typical."

It's fine, Seider's a great prospect and it's just one scrimmage. But I'm not sure why people have such a tough time admitting that Seider might not be this perfectly-polished player at twenty years old.
