Laval Rocket: GDT- Game THREE Rochester at Laval 7PM EST

Couple of notes:

  • Farrell is so much quieter....while Gignac is stepping up big time.

Speed is the difference. Farrell has a better skillet and much better IQ IMO, but Gignac can do more stuff and is more noticeable because of his speed.

Farrell should go straight to the Swiss league.

Yeah I think it would be fair to move Farrell & Kidney at this point. If HuGo see’s something he likes coming up through Jr. or Vinnie Rohrer or Kapanen, maybe even one of our Russian prospects….he’ll have to make room in Laval.

Farrell & Kidney would do well in Anaheim’s system.

Yeah. All today's goalies are trained to emulate Mr Perfect's (Price) playing style from their very first goalie clinic. I think that's what makes Dobes such an eye sore.
Dobes is a cross between Price and Hasek. He has some decent techniques but he also is all over the place like Hasek.
He is a work in progress and is not nearly a finished product. He is fun to watch. I like his fiery combative style.

For the non-French speaking folk:

Primeau has an exceptional record against the Amerks. He's won 12 of his last 13 games against them, including the 2022 playoffs (when LAV swept them). He's put up a .932 SV% in those games 13 games.

He has also won his last 6 games against them at Place Bell. Sometimes, the numbers speak for themselves and justify the decisions.

I watched bits and pieces of the game yesterday. I don't watch a lot of AHL hockey, but the very few times I did watch the Rocket, Florian Xhekaj stood out in a positive way for me. I knew about the physical attributes and the mean streak, but I found myself very impressed with his skillset and hockey IQ. Feels like he's always making the right play when the puck on his stick and his positioning seems to be very good as well.

MTL might have more than a 4th liner/13th forward in him, which is what I originally thought he was gonna be when he was playing in the O. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get 15-15-30 + 150 PIMs in the NHL one day.

Farrell has been one of our best players in Laval this year and the playoffs, despite his last 2 games being mostly poor, Gignac has done next to nothing all year, although he was one of our better players last year and his speed is his only real asset. Farrell had a good off-season as he clearly is quicker this year but he needs more work and it shows why some agents don't do their clients any favors when they push to burn a year off his ELC as he likely needs another year in the AHL but now will have to clear waivers.

I've been saying this for some time now as people just look at his style and it's auto 4th liner, even his coach seems to think this since he's been playing on the 4th line just about the entire season but imo he's going to be much more then a 4th liner as long as he keeps progressing. Some posters were calling him another Pezzetta but this kid has hands and can play in all situations while bringing such a nasty physical game. Once he adds more mass, strength and works on being more explosive, look out.

I'm entertained. But this is the AHL, don't expect the same tempo or skill level as the NHL. Watching an AHL playoff game and then watching an NHL playoff game, you see the difference. But that is to be expected. One's he top level and the other is a level below.

What ? The AHL playoffs have been better than most of the games you see in the NHL.
I’m talking about how long it takes between games and series

Yes, in Laval. I can't imagine the player I see play in the NHL regularly. Way too slow, way too weak. I've seen 7-8 games live this year + 2 in the playoffs, bunch of games last year too. Never saw an NHL player there.

Again, I hope I'm proven wrong.

way too weak yes, too slow no, clearly he's improved his speed. The point is development often takes years and we know most won't make it, but so many are in a rush to just dismiss any prospect that struggles. When you draft anyone that lacks height, mass, skating, speed and strength, you have a major uphill battle that likely won't work but that's why you give them a bunch of years to see if they can progress or not. So far Farrell has continued to progress but can he keep progressing or not. No one knows, we just have to wait and see. If they didn't burn a year off his ELC, he would easily be back in Laval next year and we could see how he looks at camp the following year.
