Laval Rocket: GDT- Game 3 Cleveland at Laval 3 PM EST

Roy is another example that talent while very important is not sufficient to make you a NHL player.

This is a reason why compete has become my main criteria in evaluating young prospects.
That's why he fell in the 5th round to begin with. Teams didn't think he had in him to bring it to other levels. Chances are...they were right. But in the 5th round, it was a great chance to take. Nothing to say about that pick. It was worth the try.

The GDT on the Stars board got up to 18 pages when I checked it out shortly after the game last night for a Game 7 that had a legendary finish that hockey fans will be talking about for decades. This Laval vs Cleveland GDT might pass 18 pages before the start of the 3rd period.

Roy was drafted in the 5th round. Skilled lazy players who are not super small are drafted in the first 3 rounds. Roy does have qualities but he's not skilled anyway not at the pro level. Gallagher was drafted in the 5th round because he's about as tall as my mom.

I think Roy was top -5 or so when drafted into the Q.

Gallagher has genuine talent though.
Roy has more talent than Gallagher ever did. Gallagher never had a good shot, and always sucked at passing. No vision.

His compete level was/is out of this world though, brought him where he is.

Roy, well, his compete level can not be described as it does not exist.

He's Charles Hudon 2.0.

Won't be a regular in the NHL with that staking and hustle.
He'll have a great career in Europe if this is what he want though. People calling him a bad hockey player would be crushed by him on the ice easily. He's a 5th round pick. People act like we drafted him 10th overall. He's doing better than 95% of 5th round pick. It was a nice pickup and worth a try with a bit more speed and grit he would have become a good player.

They won't let him go for free. He's too good for that.

Sign and trade.

Yup, he's definitely getting his Q.O. Then he's either getting traded as part of a larger deal to get something we need, or he's getting a one year, one-way contract. They'll either go with 3 goalies again next year, waive Primeau or send Dobes & Fowler to Laval.

We're not giving up our goaltending depth now considering how hard it is to acquire. It's an organizational strength which is a good thing not a bad thing.

Gotta give him props, not many 5th rounders ever get even one NHL game.

And why do we care? None of the players in the ECHL will ever play in the NHL. Also other goalies like Emond and Jones did good in the ECHL this year.

I guess Fowler is our only kid not needing any playoffs experience, He is that good.
While a big jump, some players (to name some), who started out in the ECHL/IHL had successful careers in the NHL:
David Desharnais, Thomas Vokoun, Tim Thomas, Mark Streit, Michael Ryder, Jonathan Quick, Alex Burrows, Rich Peverley,........

I remember during the WJC in Halifax, some in here were raving about Roy and shitting on Fantilli who hadn't been drafted yet. Folks need to realize you can't compare a 19 year old to a draft eligible in that tournament.
