With the way Fowler played tonight it should be him, why mess around as he looked very calm, the 2nd goal was a knuckle puck so can't really fault him....
...their best player in the 2nd half of the season has been Xhekaj and he barely played tonight, Davidson as well as he has been one of their best players all season...
...they opted to give Gignac and RHP more TOI despite both being out long. I barely noticed either of them but they got the win and that's what matters now as development kind of takes a back seat once you are in the playoffs imo.
Fowler might be the real deal.I'm surprised they were able to get any pucks behindDominik HasekJet Greaves.
In all seriousness, good start. Big playoff win for Fowler.
14 wins given the first 2 series are best of five. Even closer!1/16!
15 remaining winning games to go!
I am not surprised this wasn't mentioned. People only like to throw shade at the kid.Something that wasn't mentioned is that Mailloux played a solid game both on the PP and defensively. Hopefully he keeps it up.
I actually thought he was the Habs best Dman. Glad to see Vincent play him on the PP and the PK. Even the Cleveland broadcasters were impressed with him.I am not surprised this wasn't mentioned. People only like to throw shade at the kid.
I really like Mailloux and hope we don't trade him. RD with size that plays mean and has great offensive instincts. Those don't grow on trees. He has time to learn the defensive side of the game and improve his skating. The Hunters put a lot of faith in him when he played in London, so I have faith in him.I actually thought he was the Habs best Dman. Glad to see Vincent play him on the PP and the PK. And even if he just ends up being a bottom pairing D 5v5 and a tool to use on PP2 (or PP1 if Hutson or someone else gets injured), that's still pretty good to me! Our bottom pair could have used a guy like that this playoffs.
Their best player in the second half may well have been Farrell or Primeau though Xhekaj is certainly in the running.
The forward lines are quite balanced.Gignac is an excellent AHL player. If he can get into game shape in the early rounds, the third line can be a powerhouse later in the playoffs.
The fourth line deserves ice time. They will be a handful for opposing teams. Maybe it's Condotta's line that should be given fourth line minute's.

Who would you rather have playing 4C next year for the Habs: Xhekaj or Beck?Farrell was very good but aside from points he doesn't bring much else, Xhekaj who had more goals then Farrell, also brings something no one else does. I saw every game and for me Xhekaj was the 2nd half MVP, that's how big of an impact he made imo. Primeau got the wins but he played in front of the best defense in the AHL (all year they were at or near the top of fewest GA, opposite of last year) so was it his play that was so good or the team in front of him.
I don't know how Gignac gets into game shape so quickly after missing 5+ months, and he was really good for us last year but before he got hurt this season he was not good at all.

This. And why would he care about that AHL championships that he did not play all season for, while he can instead represent his country in a world tournament.Kapanen probably goes to the worlds. There’s no room
I may get push back on this but based on having watched every Laval game this season I would take Xhekaj over Beck.Who would you rather have playing 4C next year for the Habs: Xhekaj or Beck?
Sounds like we are stuck with Dvorak for 2-3 years.not sure if either is ready for that, hard to say how their summers will go but if they have to start out in Laval it's no issue. Xhekaj has to work on adding mass, lower body strength, and being more explosive, this will take time but I got to think he sees NHL games at some point next season. Beck needs to get stronger but I would assume he's got the inside edge. Depends on their plans for Kapanen as well, I wasn't too impressed with what I saw from him in the playoffs (didn't see last nights game) so I wouldn't be surprised if he needs time in Laval.
Xhekaj's improvement from his draft year, just from stat watching, is extremely impressive.I may get push back on this but based on having watched every Laval game this season I would take Xhekaj over Beck.
I think folks will be disappointed when they realize Beck may be nothing more than a 4th line center in the league.
It's a short flight from DC to Cleveland. I would imagine that Primeau is travelling to Cleveland today. If so, I'm guessing that he'll start the second game of the series on Friday evening.
On the other hand, if Primeau returns to Montreal with the rest of the Habs, he may simply wait for the Rocket to get back from Cleveland. If the series is 2-0 by that time, it's going to be hard to switch out Fowler for Primeau.
Sounds like we are stuck with Dvorak for 2-3 years.
