I was very happy with Orpik tonight as well but if we want to go on a long run we have to save his minutes moreI wouldn't disagree. Jensen really needs to step up. Meanwhile, really impressed with Orpik

They were..one thing about this year's team is they have had more bad changes than previous teams have had and as a result more too many men on the ice penalties..nowhere close to the Oates days but worse than Trotz.I could be wrong but i think they were in the middle of a change there.
On the note of stupid penalties... I can’t remember our last delay game for throwin the puck over the glass. Those useto doom us all the time even to send us 2 men downThey were..one thing about this year's team is they have had more bad changes than previous teams have had and as a result more too many men on the ice penalties..nowhere close to the Oates days but worse than Trotz.

Hags plays almost the entire PK and now 2nd line to protect Kuz.Hagelin, eller, wilson with more toi than the big guns. Hagelin with over 20. Career high? Wtf is going on
It was a 4th liner move...It was close bounced up off of his body and off of his shoulder..but yeah he shot it right into him..
At least he hit the net.It was a 4th liner move...
Can Kempny really be this important to our D? If this is what Carolina does to us I am scared to think about what teams with more potent offenses will do. Hopefully it was just a bad game from them.
What did they do to us?
Kempny is important of course but he isn't Carlson important. If the Caps lose this series it won't be because Michael Kempny was missing.
I thought they capitalized on our inability to conduct clean breakouts and we also looked lost in coverage when the puck was behind our net. I think their forecheck made it difficult on Djoos and Jensen in particular.
I think the reason the Canes do not generate more high danger chances is their lack of skill, particularly passing. They had a ton of people open in front but rarely made the pass on their tape. The one time they did they scored (second goal). Which is why I think a team with more skill could exploit this weakness.Caps definitely need to be a step quicker in their coverage, Ovie on Svechnikov for one, but I just didn't think the Canes looked dangerous and their shot map shows that. They have the puck a lot down below the goal line, I'll give you that.
Caps can work on the first forward down low helping with that and hopefully relieving the pressure on the D.

If it’s pens and bolts both teams have just as much talentWell then let's hope, if we can beat the Canes, we don't play a team with more skill.
Glad we won, but please can we maintain this Svechnikov guy? Don't leave him wide open
Sam Spade: out of curiosity, what's the source or website of this lovely chart? If you generated it, hats off to you, but if not, I thank you equally for sharing it.
