GDT: GDT #67 New York Islanders @ Pittsburgh Penguins | March 18th | 7:00 PM | F/4-2 W

I know some people would rather the team lose out to improve their draft pick, but very few professional hockey players will willingly tank when they’re still in the hunt. And to be honest, even though I see the chances of a top 10 pick dwindling, I really like watching the Isles win. Will never cheer for them to lose, even though I understand that in the long run, it’s probably better if they do.
I always considered it bad karma to root for the team to lose to get a higher pick, but seeing how Lou has absolutely decimated this team it is the only way they can get better, whatever they are doing now which will likely get them some mid 1st round pick ensures the Islanders are going to be a weak team with no hope for the foreseeable future

Engvall looks a lot like Brock.

It would be much easier to like him if it wasn't for that contract. Only good thing about it is it makes him easy to use for roster management because you know if you need a roster spot and send him down nobody will pick him up

I am thinking positively. We have 3 first rounders in 25 and 26, and one of Pulock/Dobson could be used as trade bait to try help improve our forward base. I do think Dobson himself could get us that legit first line forward, while a combo od Pulock and draft picks might as well. Then there is Mitch Marner which is a pipedream but the Islanders have a couple ins to him.

You need game changing prospects, you usually only get those guys in the first 5 picks, Isles had a chance of doing that this year, they blew it,,, and Marner ain't going anywhere but Toronto and he sure as hell ain't coming to the Islanders, though I can see him using the Islanders to get a few extra million from Toronto like Tavares

I will say.. add a healthy Barzal, Ritchie making the team next year along having the worst PP and PK this year (this has to improve), they should be a lot better next year than they are right now. 3 points out is crazy

That contract will look fine if Smooth Pierre 2.0 upgrade remains stable. He's been amazing the last three games. Hopefully something has clicked and it's not just a temporary boost.

Some teammates told Pierre to visit hfboards and that was his wake up call. Now he's risen and Lou will look like a genius.

That’s the way I see it to, but hopefully I am wrong.

I think Marner grew up not only wearing Leaf pajamas, but sporting a Leafs bathrobe as well…probably had Leafs Underoos.

Not sure how they will make it work, but for the Leafs to let Marner go would be crazy. He is the most competitive player of that core in my opinion and immensely skilled. His vision and ability to distribute the puck is tops in the league. I know he has done a good job of taking care of himself, but I feel he loves his hometown a great deal. He is the player who might lead them to the cup, not Tavares.

If there is a chance to sign him, you do it.

I'm so caught in the middle of these two mindsets. I can see the vision behind a re-tool (hides from tomatoes) with the 3 1sts coming up and the potential to flip Dobson/Pulock/both for even more scoring up front and assets.

But I just sour on the fact that if there was a season for management initiate a tank (because players cannot actively tank) this was it. But Lou went half measures by not trading Palmieri too. At this point, they are down 4 out of their top 10 players since the season began (Barzal, Pelech, Varlamov, Nelson) and with 3 of them not expected to return.

I want to believe that Marner is a possibility to add some desperately needed skill to this lineup, but I'll do not have the belief that the Isles will ever sign a top-flight UFA until there are shovels in the ground.

Can't comprehend it at all? Like can't even see why others would think a little bit differently considering the roster?

I can't comprehend being that so single minded.

Yeah I get it sulkers gotta sulk. I stopped reading these forums the past 2 months but I figured by now everyone must be excited so I took a peek. Nope. Sour grapes as usual.

I don't get it. Lou did what everyone asked for and traded Nelson for Ritchie and a first round draft pick. You can't ask for a better outcome so in regards to what everyone was worried about so I don't know where all the complaints are coming from. We have Ritchie, 2 first round draft picks, Eiserman, and Nelson. I don't think Tsyplakov has hit his stride yet but I'm expecting an even better year next year and we still have Horvat and Barzal to lead the offense before they become the experienced veterans showing the Ritchie/Eiserman duo the ropes.

In the aftermath of all that we have a competitive team now with it's defense restored and showing what a well oiled machine can do against so-called "powerhouse" teams. The last few games are Roy hockey and Roy knows it takes a team to win the Stanley Cup and not necessarily a stables worth of superstars.

He proved this with the 1992-1993 Stanley Cup Canadiens when it was essentially he and Guy Carbanneau who led that team of relative nobodys to the Cup. The way he's got this team skating and will the short quick passes to break out of the D zone reminds me a lot of that 92 Hab team which I wouldn't be surprised where he is drawing his experience from. Roy himself proved if you have a hot goaltender and a strong system in front of him anything is possible.

That's why we should all be rooting for the team right now rather than acting like a bunch of losers because honesty that's what losers do. Every team in the league has the odds of winning the Cup stacked against them so losers take the easy way out and just accept a losing mentality. There's nothing wrong with this team. There are 26 players on the ice each night. They have a chance to make the playoffs and they are in the thick of the hunt. We are only 3 pts out. We can be the Cinderella team or the Sharks, Oilers or Avs can be the next first round exit Boston Bruins. There's no guarantees in this game.

I so I suggest everyone get there collectives heads out of their bung holes and get excited like me dammit! There's never any advantage in hoping a teams does worse. How does that help each individual's trade value if they shit in the bed? What if the team makes it to the second round or ECF? Now how much is a Lee or Pelech or Pageau worth? So you tank and get a higher pick but lose all trade value in players like these? Doesn't make any sense. The smart thing to do is to hope the team makes the playoffs and gets as far as they can if not win the whole damn thing. Wake up folks!

Dobson is definitely looking like a bit of a new player out there.

Where's the guy who was stuck in the mud for much of the first half of the season?

Or, more importantly, what brought him out of the comma?
