So, are we winning now because
A) Holmstrom is back in the line-up?
B) Tsyplakov is out of the line-up?
C) Barzy and Horvat are on the same line again?

I guess "All of the above" has to be an option.

But an even better question is:
Are we about the most inept team with an empty net in the history of the game?

I mean, how many times did an Islander get that puck on his stick in that final 2:40 of play?

Don't mind the text here... This is just MINDBOGGLING!

I mean like how???

The sheer magnitude of spots on the ice Pageau coulda and shoulda been sending that puck to instead of trying to put it through THE ONE OPPONENT within miles of the situation.....

Just blows my mind.

Absolutely fathomless...

D) The team comes back into the D zone 5 men low. This more than anything else to me is what is paying dividends. Nobody cherry picking up high above the circles. An entire unit backchecking, trying to keep the opponent from the high danger areas and helping out our goalie.

Sounds familiar? It’s what was preached here 2 coaches back.

This was indeed mind boggling, but when you add to that the fact that Nelson had two clean shots at it, as well as Barzal once and I think Lee once, and it is just bizarre. Whenever I watch any other team, the empty net is pretty much automatic when they get possession in the neutral zone or in the O-zone

Holmstrom back definitely helps, not sure that Tsyplakov being out is part of the answer; although it might be a good thing to have him sit and watch a few games. Maybe he starts on the fourth line when he’s back.

Attention Negative Nancys in here : Had it every occurred to any of you that it is still early enough in the season and that maybe last night was a sign of the team getting their act together?

It seems the worst thing that can happen for the "HFboards Islanders Fanatics" is that the Islanders actually make a decent run and actually make the playoffs. god forbid that happens they might actually win a round and then what.

Then what huh

Enjoy the rest of the season.

Then what? Another opportunity to remain a mid team and kick the retool can down the road again another year.

Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to fix the problems this team has.

It’s half way through the season. We are on a 2 game win streak. 7 points back of the wild card that 8 other teams are competing for. Use this as your playoff run if you must

I would much rather we make moves to get ready for 2025-26 season. Islanders fan James Hagens is the most important

No.

You are acting like it is December 21st. This team has had 3 months and 48 games to show us what they are, they've had more than enough time to 'get their act together'

Also...
PP% = 12.5 (32nd)
PK% = 67.7 (32nd)

Certainly doesn't look good, but FWIW I recall a time when Hamonic fell and his leg bent in a similar "it's not supposed to do that" manner, and he was back the next game IIRC.
