I am still so f***ing disgusted with Matt Martin's dumb f***ing decision to send the puck into the middle of the ice. I can't understand what he was thinking. I want to break shit. Seriously, how f***ing stupid of a play was that?
I've watched this play ten times and cannot understand how he can throw it to the middle. The boards were wide open and simply getting it out of the zone pretty much guarantees OT. And the middle of the ice was populated by Preds. This might be the dumbest play of the year. We can blame the players, and of course they are responsible, but when a team chokes away lead after lead all season long, it's on the coaching. If Torts was the coach, Martin wouldn't play again for a month. Time for a new coach. Right now.

Martin is a veteran who has been through the wars, there is no way he should make such a stupendously stupid play at this point in his career. No excuse. All he has to do was look up and he would have seen options. I love the guy, but that was galactically dumb.

They fall into disarray under pressure. Under Trotz they were drilled in the way to react under pressure. Bend don't break.
This team breaks first.
Remember we used to be "comfortable in uncomfortable situations"? That left with Barry Trotz.
This year's Islanders do not have attention to detail. Too many sloppy moments that end up in the back of our net.

Mayfield must be out on all PKs and with 1 minute to go. Lou put that clause in his 7 year deal… it must be the only explanation because Mayfield is terrible
Scotty wasn't the f***ing problem tonight. He was fine. I get blaming Scotty but for f***s sake, he is one of like three reliable defensemen out there.

I'm tired of this place but man, you guys are quick to blame Scott for everything like Barzal. You want to rip someone? Rip the coach, the idiotic management of lines, the double shifting of MATT f***ING MARTIN in 2024, and the PK. I'm dead serious when I say that this team should be sellers. Vancouver and Colorado need a 2C. I would gladly trade Nelson if it meant picking up a 1st and much needed prospects. I gladly would tank this season so Lambert gets fired. Freshen this team up, because the potential decline should no moves be made is arguably even worse. Games like this are why I have to be more critical about Lamoriello post Trotz.

I can't comprehend what Martin did when the risk associated with icing the puck was minimal. The cross ice dump is a good play to avoid icing but not here.

There was also no reason for Mayfield to have stick where it was. He has mental lapses on a regular basis when used beyond his capabilities and the Martin turnover put him in a tough spot. Still, that shouldn't have happened. An easy save by Sorokin turned into a disaster.

it deflected off of Mayfield. That's as much of a bullshit deus-ex-machina goal you can get. Its literally the worst goal you can give up, and that is why this team needs to get change. The hockey gods have made it clear as day.

This team is the very definition of inconsistent and incompetent.
They showed up and that was a 50% possibily.
But they bumbled away a regulation lead and then a took a loss. Just a few of the 20 Islanders on the ice last night were incompetent at critical times, and the team majors in that capacity.

The funny thing is if they won this game I think most would say they played well.
I thought they played well enough to win. When they are skating, working hard, they can play with anyone.

I don't know if they are choking because of nervousness, or playing lackadaisical, because they are over confident. Either way it's a bad look.

Time to bring up a couple kids and create some competition.

This is the dumbest f***ing team I've seen in a long time, it's the coaching. It's not a coincidence how almost the entire roster has become mind numbingly stupid over the off season.
Not just the off-season. Remember when Pelech flicked the puck up the middle of the ice in game 6 2OT? The decision making has been bad under Lane.

This team in theory is as complete and talented as I've seen in a long time. The core has performed in the playoffs and all the elements are there for a serious Championship run if Sorokin and/or Varly gets hot. The defense (assuming everyone is healthy and playing up to ability) is the best unit in decades. The offense is potent and we finally have a good PP. Lambert is not the right coach.

Lambert called it a calamity of errors yet takes no responsibility because he's the moron who put the idiots out there in the first place. Martin, Mayfield, and Palmieri (3 of the dumbest players on the team) were put out there by him. This is Capuano level stupidity, I thought those Fred Flintstone days were over.
Yet, Trotz routinely had Mayfield out there in critical minutes, especially the last minute of tie and winning games.

There was time put back on the clock, but the entire team and staff left the bench before the final faceoff, except for Bo Horvat. That is a terrible look on tv.

Appearances matter.

Not to mention that if tempers flare in the faceoff circle before the final horn there's no Islander who has their teammates' backs except for the 6 guys. This is shameful, and recurring example of what bothers me with this roster. They really don't stick up for each other. They didn't last year and they still don't.

Shameful.

Sad thing is we did play well and still lost. We struggle to win games and that’s literally all that matters. Definitely need a coaching change but this isn’t exactly a very good team personnel wise either. Some awful contracts from players giving us nothing.

This team did play well last night. For a change, they didn't give up 40 shots and played sound defensive hockey for 55 minutes. It's the personnel decisions - who is on the ice at the end, and the passive PK and defense at the end of games that did them again. On the tying goal, Clutterbuck could not get to a puck in the zone that 99% of NHL players get and that led to a failed clear and a goal. Then seeing Martin get not one, but two shifts in the last 90 seconds of a tie game is coaching malpractice.

This is the reason this team blows lead after lead. They play the old slow and turnover prone players. They play a passive defensive style when protecting a lead. This means they pack it in and don't cover the points. The passive style means they don't pressure the puck. When they get the puck, they can't clear it because the wings are not on the boards by the blue line. They are in deep in the middle of the ice. They don't get empty net goals because they can't possess the puck or clear it when they get lucky and get a stick on it in the defensive zone. This is basic hockey. It is a coaching and playing style issue.
