Gonna be painful to watch but certainly looks like a time to unload expiring contracts for market value. Nelson will command that first plus. He will warm up soon or pop in a few at 4 nation's. Has a past history of stepping up in the post season too. There will be a bidding war from the usual suspects. Palms, perhaps at 2nd for a warm body? Lee pageau in the off-season may be happening as well. Time to deal with the bottoming out. Lgi. Hopefully the team is hungry come october because losing certainly sucks for all.

Roy’s guy runs that. Lou’s guys are in charge of the PK and PP. A lot of fans here want to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

This kind parsing of responsibility in order to defend Roy is ludicrous. He is the head coach and can overrule anything happening at ice level in terms of scheme. The historically bad combo of PK and PP is not something he can disavow.

I’m not denying that he’s overseeing it, but it’s worth pointing out that the thing that he has complete control over (5v5) has remained better than league average the entire season, including when the team was decimated.

It’s strange that McLean wasn’t fired after having a historically bad power play last season (which began under Lambert’s oversight), and it’s even stranger he’s still here now. Albelin, another former Devil Lou hire, is doing even worse. Roy’s guy (who if we remember, there was a little pushback from Lou upon his announcement) is succeeding.

I think it’s worth letting Roy put together his own team for a training camp before firing him. It feels like half of his staff has been forced down his throat. Let’s see the team under his control, and let’s see if the passionate player/coach comes back once management has made some decisions on what the succession plan is after Lou.

I sincerely hope you’re right on Nelson, I do, but a lot depends on how he plays the rest of the way, where he’s willing to waive to go to, and who else is on the market. Last year three first rounders were moved at the trade deadline - for Guentzel, Hertl and Henrique. Nelson’s probably in a similar class to Hertl and Henrique, so there is hope. But his recent play is certainly driving down his value. If his next 20 games are similar to his past 20 games, there’s no way there are 5 teams, let alone 1 or 2 willing to give up a first for him.

Like I said I think even if he doesn’t score again before deadline there will be five cup contenders offering a first for him. His cap hit will be 3 million which is big factor for teams up against cap plus he’s an all around center. The teams dealing for him know what he is regardless.

I worried about Albelin hire but he was thought of very highly around league but the Defense has regressed especially Dobson under him.

Roy had no problem saying about the players that 'this is team Lou gave him'. We have heard nothing of that nature regarding his coaching staff. And I'm sure as head coach if he felt that they were a hindrance or incompatible with him then even someone as pig-headed and out of touch as Lou is not going to stand his way as far as replacing them.

In the offseason he needs to move on from Pageau. Lee also should look into handing the captaincy to someone else.

This team would be in a very good spot for the offseason if they do all of these things. The turnaround would be awfully quick. If Lou does not trade Nelson and Palmieri the result would be devastating for this organization.

If this team is indeed giving it their all then yes it's time to move on from this core. I agree on all the usual suspects, Nelson, Palms, Pageau. When playing at their best these are not bad players at all and if motivated on a cup contending team each one of them can be a difference maker. They just happen to be the team's best assets to sell and if it's for first round picks or a solid prospect I'm all for it at this point. I agree on the Captaincy. They need a leader who can lead by example preferable someone with a a little nastiness in him. Unfortunately we don't have such a player on the team. This team needs a Matthew Tkachuk type player badly. The team needs a major shakeup/retool and the next GM needs to bring some character back to this roster. The team is way too soft and have no fear of losing nor any real drive to win. I can't believe what Lou has done to this team. He was gifted a solid roster that had a couple of good runs but nothing after that the more Lou meddled with it.

Yes it is, but he took the job presumably with eyes open because the roster is basically the same as on that day and since that day the checks have gone into his bank account. The team is not great and no one expects great things, certainly not me, but at the same time he has no excuses.

I don't know anything about Roy's IQ but I know he f**ked up royally by coming here. He took a marginal playoff team and made it worse, presides over the worst special teams combo in history and shit on his GM along the way for a roster he knew about before he got here, or should have.

He better hope the Isles are stupid enough to hire him as a GM or let him stay here as head coach because I don't think he is going to get another head job in the NHL. What other GM is going to hire him? Rightly or wrongly, they don't like coaches who take the paycheck and then complain that they can't get the job done because of something the GM did or didn't do.

Objectively, Lee is yet another Islander who has never come close to living up to his contract. He's a good guy and I'm sure a fine captain - for whatever that is worth - but hardly irreplaceable, and frankly, what difference does it make who the captain is on sinking ship? If the Isles can cash in on the decent season he is having they should do it before he reverts to his career mean. It's all about building for the future, not hanging on to the past.

Now hold on a second there! Hold ON!!! If my memory serves me correctly he took a team that was out of a playoff picture last year and in 37 games turned the ship around and got this team in. Also he improved 5 on 5 play GAA for EVERY single damn player on the team. Let’s get that straight. This year he dealt with injury after injury with a roster that we can all agree is too old and not fit for a modern uptempo aggressive system and Roy called Lou out on this early.

That is why Roy called him out early THIS season because none of his concerns were addressed. That is not Roy’s fault and he has every right to call out his boss if he is not given the tools to get the job done. If the team needs to tank let it tank but Roy’s going nowhere. I can guarantee it.

Yes, let’s get our facts straight. This seems to be a common (incorrect) theme. Lou added Duclair, Tsyp, broke up the identity line (though probably should have signed clutter instead of Martin, or signing neither would probably have been better), signed Reilly (unforeseen medical issue kept him out).

Every team makes adjustments every year. To say NOTHING ad nauseam is literally not true. If you want to argue almost nothing, then maybe. And you can argue the moves are good or bad, certainly. But the nothing narrative is false and tiresome.
