On a sidenote, I think they may have found a gem in this kid George. For Him to look that poised three games into his NHL career at his age is remarkable… Especially for a defenseman. Would be nice if we finally caught lightning in a bottle for a change like everyone else seems to do on occasion.

Of course there’s a long way to go before we know for sure but at least it’s exciting to track his progress seeing as it doesn’t look as if we will have much to cheer for this year… Lol

The Isles are the most entertaining team to watch in the last few minutes of a game with a lead. It’s been happening for a few years now and every time I look at the defensive group it has Mayfield out there most nights. I thought they played a solid game and like the team better without Barzal. They just need to get quicker on the backend and George has helped but Hutton, Pulock, Mayfield need upgrades
This season it's been Dobson's pairing getting burned in closeout time, as well as Horvat and Nelson. Nelson in particular will send an errant pass in the D zone that results in a failed clear.

Somebody tell me that Noah Dobson hasn't regressed. He has no defensive awareness, and he doesn't score like Paul Coffey to justify him being on the ice when it's the last minute of a 1 goal game.

No, it would be a lot more lively if people didn't post negatively 90% of the time. It's gotten tiring to posters like me who don't see a loss as the end of the world. You'll notice that many long time posters are just messaging each other instead of commenting here.
There isn't enough perfume to cover up the fact that this is a mid team when healthy. People are tired of that.

Rainbows and lollipops please🍭

That was likely Holmstrom's most impressive performance as an Islander. When he isn't deferring puck possession to his linemates, he is a constant line driver. He's on pace to double last year's point production.

If George buried the OT winner, we'd be seeing a page of praise here. All the Debbie Downers here wanted change and new faces. You are getting some of it with those two and I'm sure I'll be seeing how we need to draft better while ignoring what's happening right in front of you.
So you want to hold your hat on the development of a 3rd liner in Holmstrom, because that's all he'll be at best and a 20 yr old rookie defensemen who's played what 2 or 3 games?

You don't see the problem with this team, the core is done. We need a new face lift for this team.

That to me is the main problem. That is why Lou is still here. Any decent ownership would know Lou has to go and team needs to make wholesale changes. But they are only worried about the oh mighty dollar.

If anyone wants to laugh at my expense and what I quote all the time when my ticket rep tries to get me back on board for a plan, here is my record seeing games over the last two seasons:

3 Wins (all last season. Home Opener, Barzal OT against Toronto, win against Chicago)

11 losses (Including the Stadium Series)

Went to the Home Opener and last night so far this year. Both incredible late game collapses. I've never seen a more mentally weak team in my life. They ain't winning shit with this group.

Yes I can tell you that this team blew leads like nobody’s business well before the injuries piled up.

And when they aren’t blowing leads, they simply aren’t scoring at all.
Is this a response to what I said? If so, you would be telling me that Dobson is adequate defensively and on par with Pelech and Romanov. But you're not, right?

There’s been lots of praise for George on here, I don’t think anyone is ignoring his impressive start. And agreed on Holmstrom - he had a great night last night and on most nights shows he’s a defensively responsible player with some pretty good offensive skills too. A great third line guy that can move up the lineup when needed.
I don’t think anyone is ignoring that, but we also can’t ignore the blown leads and inability to close out games.

Of course Roy deserves flack. He has to stop using Dobson to close out games.
True, but at this point he doesn’t have much choice. You’re generally trying to kill off 2 minutes of 6on5, and will need at least 4 Dmen to do that, depending how the stoppages play out. We don’t have four high quality, reliable Dmen to close out games - right now I’d say we only have Pulock and 3 game-vet George.

Finding a way to blame the fans instead of the team is absolutely wild

We have some expert gaslighters among us

LOL...gaslighters? Calling me a gaslighter is rich. I'm curious, how did I "blame" the fans?? Because I call you out at not looking at the true problem of the team. You want to try and sugar coat this team by saying...WOW Holmstrom might be a solid 3rd liner! LOL...classic.

Not enjoying the negativity

Pot Roast night at the country club with speaker topic about how we’ve gotta get better at closing out games but making sure to praise our effort

They have gone 3-1-1 since losing Barzal and the entire left side of the D in one night. They blew lead last night but honestly these points are keeping them in this until they start getting key players back. I don’t understand the negativity at this very moment.

Sabres, Penguins, Senators. 6 points we should have every time and yes I’m happy for it

Blown leads for multiple seasons now is why I do not think this is a serious group. Trending right for that wild card range or just missing playoffs

Means nothing...So when we have Barzal and all of our Defense and roster we were 3-5-2.

We are not a good team. plain and simple. The sooner we start changing up this roster the better. Do we all as fans want to be a fringe team year after year?

Resigning Dobson is looking like a real wild card. Even if he’s 70 point guy, he’s flawed defensively making him more like a 50 point guy and costing the team valuable points with his ongoing gaffes.

Hopefully, he takes a bridge and repairs his play, but resigning him long term after seeing his play from the Stadium Series to date is a bad move.

Roy and Albelin just have to cobble it together with Pulock, Mayfield and George. After what we’ve seen of Noah Dobson this season, when he has to defend, at this point should not be in the mix. And certainly not paired with Hutton. The coaches must do a better job managing the minutes of the D.

After reading through this thread and the last couple of GDT, I think we got the answer to this year’s whipping boy…..Dobson.

He has earned it

I had hopes that Dobson was going to show up to camp Chiseled and ready to play hard this year.
Instead we got a marshmallow....
