When they “decided” to rebuild is not relevant.

And why not? Our rebuild started when we decided to go on a massive firesale. They sold players but most importantly, changed all their staff.

Fact of the matter is their two best players were drafted a long time ago. It always made sense for them to start pushing now with Suzuki at 26. Another 2-3 years of complete rebuilding would have Suzuki at almost 30 when he first makes the playoffs lol. (Outside of that run).

Their 2 best players will most likely be Hutson and Demidov, who were drafted in 2022 and 2024

I don't think they expected to be a playoffs team as soon as this year (objective was to be "in the mix"), they probably believed in Hutson but nobody knew he would be that good that fast.

By the way Chabot is 28 y/o, Batherson is 26 y/o, etc and they're going to make the playoffs for the first time. Some teams beat their own expectations, some others don't.

They have not been "pushing", they brought Laine because they had the cap and it came with a 2nd round pick and they got offered Carrier for a near bust. No other moves were showing a "push". They played goalie prospects as their backups and they struggled most of the season, etc... They were not trying to make the playoffs at all costs.

I beleive that we should have and could have made the playoffs the last two years.

Two years ago we should have been able to squeak in with a different coach. DJ should have been let go if Dorion was going for it.

And last year without korpisalo I beleive we get in as well

2021-22 is when we should have started to contend seriously for a spot and stop being eliminated in November. Not sure why you're saying that, it just confirms my point that we had terrible management.

Whos disagreeing with terrible management?

I think Habs have the roster to do exactly what they’re doing now. And it helps that Montana ultimately has emerged as a legit goalie.

I think the sens could have done what they doing in 21-22. But we have DJ smith and shite goalies
