Games Tonight Affecting Sens

They dusted the Panthers and Canes at home. I don't see them going away easy and I think they could beat the Avs Saturday.

They’ll fall back to earth at some point. No middling team can keep up 7-1-2 pace over 10 game stretches. They just lost to the Isles. Neither can we and neither can they. We were due for a bit of reality check here with these losses.

Montreal plays desperate and they’ll win some games and certainly they could win against Colorado like any team could but I really don’t see them keeping this pace over the next 15 games.

I remember seeing the same discourse when the Wings went on a crazy coach bump but you just know that’s not going to be sustainable. Same thing for the Jackets. Same thing for us. The glut of teams from our spot to 11th are all decent to average teams. I do think we are better than all of those teams. We have the strongest centers, best goalie, and a really competitive top 4 when Jensen comes back.

It’s really amazing that we put ourselves in a position that we don’t have to absolutely win every night. Now they have to refocus, hopefully get Jensen back here, and start playing with more urgency. It’ll work itself out I’m not worried one bit.

Start the day with a 5pt cushion and two games in hand and end it with a 5pt cushion and no games in hand but closer to the finish line.

Damage could have been a lot worse tonight not the time to panic we were never beating Colorado

Agreed!

As soon as I saw that Jensen was out tonight I knew we didn’t stand a chance to win. It’s not all about Hamonic but when you have a hard time exiting your zone with 2 out of 3 of your D pairings against a deep, fast and skilled team like Colorado it’s going to be next to impossible to win. Jensen is the key to us winning games against good teams. Otherwise our D looks like it did last year … and that’s not good enough to win against good teams.

Ullmark could’ve played like prime Hasek and we would’ve lost that game anyways.

Part of me feels like Jensen could’ve got in this game but they decided to let him heal properly so he can be himself for the last stretch here. We will need him. Maybe a bit of a loser mentality but I’d rather have Jensen out right now in a game we will likely lose than missing him during games down the stretch where we have a much better chance to win (Buffalo, CBJ, Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, etc)

I wouldn’t mind if we fall to 8th and play Washington, Canadas capital takes on the American Capital and big favorite woukd be my choice. And I like the matchup more then the Florida tesms and I’d like to see Ovechkin made sad by my guys

I thought they had a shot at beating Colorado as they were coming off back to back games.

Fortunately Colorado plays in the west so the game wasn't as important. The game against New Jersey on Saturday will be since I could see another Metro team catching them making them relevant for the wild card spot.

It's funny, every team below (and including) the Sens lost or is losing tonight (or whenever their last game was), except for the Isles who faced another team below us, so someone had to win that one I guess.

Exactly. We got lucky with other teams lose. Hope that the luck continues.

We aren't going to win every game, just like other teams won't lose every game.

My hope is simply that we get 16 or more pts in the last 14 games, that brings us to 93 pts or more on the season, so a record of 6-4-4, or 7-6-2, basically maintain our current pace of 93 pts or there abouts.

If we do that, for us to be knocked out, two of Mtl, NYI, NYR, Clb and Det would have to pass us, so Mtl would have to go something like 8-3-3, NYI 9-2-3, Clb 10-1-2, NYR 10-1-1, Det 10-1-3

All those records are pretty ambitious, all a pace over 111 pts. It's a small sample, but I think Mtl and NYI might be the only teams out of the bunch that has played at the pace required at any given point so far this season.

Preferably more than 16 points in the last 14 games; would like to reach 96 points for the season.

Yeah if we reach 96, I think we're basically guaranteed, even if somehow two or three of the teams below us go on some insane 115+ point pace. Also, I believe if we win every single game against the Habs, Red Wings, and Blue Jackets in regulation, we can make the playoffs even if our final record in the remaining games is below .500.

Our games against CBJ will be huge. I can't believe we play them 3 times in a week to finish the year. It's like a mini playoff series.

Winner gets in.

We found our B and C game this year, but seems that's all we have lately. Need to figure out how to play better soon.
