How do people expect Smith to try 100% when he sees Malkin floating around, giving up on plays and looking to avoid any kind of contact? Malkin looks like he's in a preseason game and looking forward to some late night Fortnite
I believe Malkin is injured…

Malkin minuses, but he needs plusses.

Prove you can still create/produce offensively. Or not. Legend either way. A guy being washed at 37 does not nullify being incredible from 20-33.

He’s a complimentary scoring winger. Outside of the elite ones, being streaky is kind of their thing. He just doesn’t do much other than score like Zucker at least hit. Kind of is what it is. Thats why it’s a good idea to have more than exactly 4 wingers capable of scoring at the NHL level in your organization.
He's a huge ES producer and high tier PK'er.
He's a better and more versatile player than Zucker.
Being streaky is fine if you end up having big numbers for the year. Most players are streaky.

Possibly, but if that's the case he should be out until healed.

He's a complete liability playing like this, and by not healing it's just going to extend and worsen the issue
We have no one else lol? who should play center? Carter? Lol

That was a month ago. Teams are very unstructured in early season.

Now he's making 0G 0A -1 a nightly way of life.

Smith looks terrible too.

This game is by no means out of reach. But damn, if our top 6 can do something that sound be great
expected goals are not out of reach, but Saros will be hard to beat 3+ times...also they really need to get out of dzone quicker, Preds sennd only one guy out and our dman are scared shitless to skate out with the puck

A portion of the fan base has been itching to put Geno out to pasture since like 2011 for whatever reason.

Guy is 37 and people want him to carry the team with a slumping Smith and Drew effing O’connor on his line. Possible injury or not, that’s a tall task for anyone.

He’s had some good games in November even though the scoring dried up…not like he’s been -2 in a game in awhile

What bothers me with this Smith slump is the effort level. Very disappointing.

in all seriousness...our defense is our wak link, they are terrible in defense...other than maybe Petts other 5 are below average defending defensman..so any hard forechecking team and heavy around goal team will beat us easily

And how many traffic goals do the Pens ever get like that... and have you ever seen 2 in one game.

We just f*** whack away with no real support in front...

Defensive positioning, clearing, etc. has been really bad this game.

Does it matter? He literally has no value playing this way? His lack of effort has led to do many chances the other way

expected goals are not out of reach, but Saros will be hard to beat 3+ times...also they really need to get out of dzone quicker, Preds sennd only one guy out and our dman are scared shitless to skate out with the puck

True, but Saros hasn't really been tested too much with anything overly difficult so far. All it takes is one to get it going

Also since like 2018, but yes tonight as well. Surely not a system issue, though. We got a helluva coach.

I want L2 to outscore the opposition. Which it consistently did with Malkin pre-COVID virtually every year, but then hasn't done post-COVID. He is the common denominator.

He’s also had a 2nd knee surgery since then and aged another 3 years. Hes the common denominator because no other player on L2 since…forever… has been worth retaining once their contract is up.
