Laval Rocket: Game TWO Charlotte at Laval 7PM EST

What a disaster...

Two weeks ago based on how much the Rocket had done, past tense, it was easy to imagine that LX, Beck, Davidson, Rein and M were ready or close to ready to step into the NHL.

Now, nobody seems ready...

The Checkers are clearly a step above the Rocket and it's surprising how they dominate them. Puck battles, skating, organized play...EVERYTHING.

I'm a bit depressed on how bad we look. Instead of standing out how well some or even one player looks, there is a widespread race to the bottom.

Primeau...he's done. If we get future considerations, take it.

Mailmam...from beast one week to Jethro ice grazing.

LX...who?

Davidson...did he play?

Rein..did not stink as much as other stunk

Beck...wdid he play?

I bet that HuGo is a bit of a daze. He may have thought he was getting some AHL relief, but looks like he has a big problem on his hands finding a 2C and RHD.

Let's see if I'm over-reacting and they come back...or those rose coloured glasses lied.

A lot of reputations both on the ice and behind the bench are being tarnished in this series. It's hard to watch.
As a fan I shouldn't be able to say watch out for the shortie before it happens. Losing is one thing but not putting your best elements together properly makes it far worse. Congrats to the very few players who did their jobs I guess.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. They're playing an older team and getting spanked. It doesn't take away from what they've accomplished all season. Just think of it as something a Fantilli playing in the WJC in his draft and several of our draft experts in here questioning his prospect status because he wasn't a star vs 19 year olds in his draft eligible season.

Some of the young Habs prospects in Laval will stuggle at the next level and never adapt. Some others will have long careers. It's why they're in the AHL now. Trying to be ready for the next step.

I'm not going to disagree but it's a bit of a head slap to see them struggle so much. It's not luck on the Checkers side, they are simply outplaying us.

On the other hand, I always argue that you have to throw the kids into the next level of challenge for them to see where they are short and how to improve. Unless it's in the NHL, "dominating" a lower league means nothing. To some extent, I wish we had 50 games against Checkers with this level of play and separate the capable from the wannabes.

Regardless, Checkers are good enough to expose our compete level and handling speed. Not impressed by anyone...and disappointed by many.

More games to go and hopefully they have another gear. It may be wishful thinking but maybe the speed and compete of the Checkers got them by surprise and they will adjust...or not.

BTW...I looked up the stats of the Checkers goalie. We should of sent Dobes down to make it more fair.

The guy has 8 seasons as an NHL goalie of which 4 were backup and one season as a 1B goalie for the Sharks. Not exactly "development league" material.

Not using it as an excuse, but sheesh, that's a lot more then I thought they would be facing. I wrongly thought the AHL was half full of prospects.

These dudes are relentless on the forecheck f***
The ability to avoid forecheck pressure is a good determinate of any defenceman’s potential. Laval’s defence is struggling to cope with AHL level pressure. Just imagine how they will fare against the speed of NHL players.

I have often said the supposed depth of our defensive prospects is illusory. That’s why at the upcoming draft Hughes should be focusing on taking highly mobile defencemen like Hensler and that the talk of trading away of our most mobile defenceman, Matheson, is such nonsense.

It’s hard to watch when your team is caught slow on defence.

Let’s keep in mind that the year Hamilton won the Calder Cup, not a lot of the prospects we had there had great impact in the big show, aside from Price and Lapierre. Andrei K played three games and sucked. That team was led by Price and AHLers.

In Laval right now, Reinbacher is the only surefire prospect we have. Beck, Mailloux, Arber Jr will need to prove that they can adapt to the speed of the big show. Fowler is still unproven.

Never forget that the AHL is just a a stepping stone. And most of our suspects won’t make it farther.
