GDT: GAME THREAD: Toronto Maple Leafs (38-22-8) vs. Vegas Golden Knights (41-20-5)

Sends the puck towards Marners wing for the breakout. Marner was deep in his zone chilling with the D

AM did say quite strongly that the Leafs need to get aggressive and add to the team. I don't think he realized how ironic that was, considering how his contract is an impediment to being able to add.

This is up there with one of the worst efforts of the season. Not just score, but you can see the guys are not playing for each other at all. A couple guys trying to play hockey and make plays (Knies), but the rest of them are just taking up space and standing still or gliding around.

I am sure management will say that the team was tight because of the tradeline or something lame like that to safely take them off the hook.

Unfortunately for Marner, no one else on the Leafs is either.

Would be advisable for them to try and generate some positiveness to finish out this game.

If they bring this effort to Denver, it's going to be way worse imo.
Naw, Leafs match up well against Colorado. Teams like Vegas, Rangers, Florida. Those are the tough, committed teams they have trouble against. Then in the playoffs the game intensity gets ratched up and they fold.

I don't care if Stolarz steals a round or two, we are all rooting for them to win. Unless they make the Cup Finals minimum, a full, hard re-tool up front is needed.

The timing is part of the reason. They don't know how the deadline is going to go and who will be traded, which players will be sitting in the box to watch games as they are healthy scratches due to the trades. Trade deadlines are always difficult for teams and their chemistry (unless you have a NMC)

If Brad can somehow move a contract or two out with any trades, that would be best. A tough task to be sure because any contract that moves will be lower value unless he can move Domi which I'm not sure they even want to do.

This management group, regardless of who the GM is, is not making any significant moves. They have run back the same core for 8 seasons... the same core that has one playoff win.

I cheer hard for this team, but I expect nothing at this point. MLSE has no balls, and it shows.

Jones would’ve been intriguing. The price for Gourde and Bjorkstrand would’ve pissed me off.
I wouldn't have gone for Jones. The prices are too high for any big moves, this seems clear. I just hope he keeps Cowan. Making the NHL isn't easy but teams can always use a goal scorer so if he is traded you need to do so next year when cap space should be available and you can complete the teams needs.

Yeah, but for once I don;t think he should make big moves. He knows the need though, whoever they bring in has to have sandpaper and a heavy game,, it's obvious.

Not an easy task, far easier in the offseason. THAT is when Leafs should walk away from JT and Marner, load up on some of the UFAs.

Pick up a Luke Kunin for cheap, I wouldn't waste a top 30 prospect to bolster this team.

Every deadline the little fellas inside the TV tell us that prices are unusually high this year, I haven’t seen a single deadline where anyone’s getting good value. This is probably a good reason not to go into October without a 3C and only 1 NHL RHD (who is old and who’s job is blocking shots with his face).
