I just watched the highlights and based on those I didn't get the feeling that the Swedes were dominant. All five of their goals happened because the Swiss didn't defend properly. I saw a lot of lost battles in the slot and puck watching, like last game mainly by the more experienced players. This just cannot happen. Not excusable. Also, even though it's true that Hollenstein cannot be blamed for one of the four he let in, he still shouldn't have been starting. He had his chance and we have three great goalies.

Anyway, in hindsight I'm pretty glad that I missed this stinker. Probably would have blown up my friggin house watching my countrymen's play against the puck. Brutal. Especially Aebischer. As great as he was in game 1, that was a joke of a game 2. Wtf.

Some of the vets gotta finally pull their heads outta their asses if they wanna get anywhere this year. Seriously. This can't be just the flu but I'm gonna get the flu watching this defense.

Uh What? Determining how a game looked based on highlights....

This was a very lopsided affair until the 3rd period when Sweden stepped off the gas completely. I was very surprised today by how big the difference between these two teams were. The Swiss are usually able to cause us a lot of trouble, that was not the case today.

Yeah ok. Switzerland isnt better than this.

Bah. No team in this tournament should be allowing such garbage goals.

Goal 1 came after a Swedish suicide pass right through the whole slot...nobody was covering anything or anybody...you tell me wtf Sopa is doing there except picking flowers. Brutal. Every half decent team would have intersepted that pass and would have had a breakaway chance.

Goal 2 happened because Aebischer fell down instead of flattening Hoglander. Every beer leaguer would have rearranged Hoglander properly for that stupid move he tried to pull off there. You won't ever get a better offer to dish out a big hit. Embarrassing stuff from Aebischer there.

Goal 3 may have happened on a Swedish powerplay but you tell me what exactly Aebischer and Berni are doing there except the already mentioned flower picking? Berni is the Captain of this team, won a friggin title with the Lions, has almost 150 games of pro experience and is playing a big role on his team this season. Aebischer and Berni have to either eliminate Hoglander or block that shot. Not doing anything and picking flowers wasn't the best idea they ever had.

On the 4th goal, Raymond skates through the whole offensive zone without ever getting attacked and still finds two teammates as open as it gets all alone parked right in front of Hollenstein. Never have I seen anything like it. And who's watching the whole sequence from behind while picking flowers? Yes of course...Sopa and Aebischer all over again.

The 5th one is the most acceptable of them all but even there you have Guggenheim providing the screen for the Swedes when he should have either blocked that shot or get his ass outta the way to give Charlin a chance to make a save.

Sopa is brutal and needs to get his minutes reduced drastically. He took two dumb penalties in game 1, too.
Aebischer may be an offensive defenseman but he's one of the returning players and the clear nr.4 on the defense. He has to be better than what he showed today. My opinion on Berni I already shared...the only one I'd excuse is Guggenheim. He's born in 2001, has very limited experience at this level and is a clear fill in on the Swiss team. Whether it was really necessary to send him out to kill that penalty is the real question to ask there.

Maybe they were but at least 4 of the 5 swedish goals I saw on the highlights were garbage goals that a good team wouldn't allow. Paterlini and his staff can't be happy when they watch tape after the game. Can't be this careless against the puck. They had similar issues in game 1 and the bleeding needs to stop. Very disappointing.

Well, the Swiss wasnt close to get any points. But its just one game, more is coming up.

This is much less about points than about the way they're defending. They have now allowed 8 goals in two games looking everything but solid against the puck.

I think it tells us we got great depth player development but not so much top end plater development. I want next Foppa or Sundin.

And somewere back in there mind this streak might lurk and make them relax after the streak is completed again and play with less focus the more importen games.
We've had plenty of top end talent over the last years but what we've been missing is a Max Friberg type character player.

I think Switzerland beats Slovakia.

With this roster they normally should and in game 1 they played very well overall. Haven't been able to watch game 2 but if you give up 8 weak goals in two matches that's rather concerning. Coaches need to make better decisions regarding goalies and ice time distribution and they can't be afraid of sitting guys if necessary.

Maybe the Swiss team isn't better than what you saw then. We will see, thrid time is the charm or however it goes :)

Again. No team should be giving up goals like that. This is less about how well you play but more about the effort level against the puck. Some of it may also be down to reading plays correctly but we're pretty much the most experienced team so it's just on the Coaches to have the right guys out when it matters and distribute ice time correctly.

Did you ever watch Junior Hockey before? Each team is giving up goals like this. Even the Swedes did. That's Junior hockey, those players aren't finished in their development. The first goal was just perfectly executed, Henauer is missing his player there, but that's world-class. The second goal is also a little bit unlucky how the puck bounces just to the stick of the Swede. Main mistake was not on Aebischer but on the Swede is able to cross the middle zone which such speed. The third goal a classic PP-goal, Berni maybe a little bit far away, but also well played by the Swedes. In the forth one Sopa and Aebischer misunderstand each other, happens from time to time. The fith one was another PP-goal, perfect one-timer from a short-angle, no way the goalkeeper would have stopped that, even without the screen.

Let's face it. You are exaggerating the strength of the Swiss team. It's a solid team, no question, but it's not the team we had last year. There is a big gap between the Defence (which is on par with last year) and the offence (which is not). I don't care how many are returning and how many have pro experience. Nussbaumer is the only forward who is really able to compete. Knak is good, but still a little bit raw.
Talking about pro-experience: Jeremi Gerber 2 points in 18 NLA/NLB-games, Sandro Schmid 1 point in 27 games. Wetter 6 points in 20 NLB-games (1 in 7 NLA), Kohler 1 point in 15 NLA games. I see currently no-one beside Nussbaumer who could turn into a leading scorer in the Swiss league. I even think most will not have long careers. And those players should run our offence.

Last year we had (beside Kurashev) guy like Eggenberger, Brühschweiler, Leuenberger, Müller, Sigrist and Lehmann (who probably was the best skater of the tournament). The offence of this year is just weaker, also in the defensive side of the game.

"I just watched the highlights and therefore I have a better knowledge of who actually controlled the game than those of you that actually watched it"

I watched only watched the highlights for the Sweden - Finland game and watching those I got the feeling that Finland completely dominated Sweden, but the comments on here were describing the opposite. Do you think I questioned the accuracy of the 6 minutes of poorly condensed highlights, or do you think I questioned the about 20 different eye-witness accounts stating the opposite?

Nah I disagree. We completely dominated Kazakhstan in a way last years team couldn't have done. Did we have better teams? Sure. But last years wasn't one of them.

Being under 20 doesn't mean that you automatically have to give up 4 bad goals per game. Teams in previous years haven't done it and they weren't better defensively. Other teams don't do it this year and they're not better either.

KAZ also was the weakest teams we played for quite some time. Denmark was always much better and more competitive.

I don't know, man but that's not the impression I had. I mean their defense is very weak but they're big, physical and they capitalized on just about every opportunity they had. Nurek is a friggin wizard, too. Excellent goalie and if we don't get that lucky bounce then who knows what happens.
Also keep in mind that they kept it tight against the Slovaks, too. They got hammered by the Fins but they also rested Nurek in this game.
