The great thing Basu did was he did some research on the type of surgery Caufield had and i believe he talked to other NHLers who the similar surgery and how long it took to recover.

From that I believe he said he (Caufield) should be good around January- February and he's been pretty damn good since.

If you remove the first half of last season where he was still recovering from surgery he has 51 goals in his last 96 games.
