I really really hope they don’t. Other than Kat and reclamation projects players the UFA signings and trades haven’t been inspiring.

That was fun to watch for meaning nothing... Sad the way the season ended. Encouraged by the kids and new coaching staff.
Really wanted to see Cat get 40.
Grand Rapids is a reason to keep watching. I cheaped out and didn't spend a dollar on going to a Wing game this year, hope there is a home playoff game I can make coming up in GR.
For off season speculation. If Marner would sign here, figure it out. They have 3 guys signed "long term", you figure the rest out later. Also hope Yzerman can bury/move 2-4 main stays from the roster this season. Should be achievable through a combination of waivers/buyout/trade.

I was fine with the team all year and had hope until that disgusting month of march effort. And even now I have no hope.
I think next year will be the same too. And because of constantly being let down I won’t get excited for the team unless SY finally does something this summer and the team starts to play and close out games without collapsing. It’s brutal.
Too much trash. Too much lazy effort.
Also hot take : TMac doesn’t have the room either. I literally have zero faith in the club right now. And I think he’s just another LaLonde. Those winning streaks were lucky and part of a longer honeymoon phase.
In my 30 years of watching this team and the crap load of money I’ve spent on it as a fan this season was the most frustrating for me.

I don't think I've ever seen a postgame interview with Larkin where it didn't seem like his world was ending. I swear if this team ever won the cup he would be standing in the locker room with champagne spraying, music blasting, and he would have the same stoic look on his face "yeah, that was a big win. We got pucks in deep and did what we had to as a group. We have a short summer and need to get to work pretty quickly".
Been thinking the same...Lalonde gone - players look competent - after tournament players look clueless again.

Not sure who needs to hear this or even wants to hear this, but over the 47 games when McLellan was coach and had the chance to coach the team (from Dec 29th onwards), the team was on pace to put up 97.7 points over the entire season, which would be good for 5th or 6th place in the conference.
I am a big Yzerman and Yzerplan supporter, but his calm, measured approach with the regard to keeping Lalonde around for far too long likely cost the team a playoff spot this season.
To Yzerman's credit, he said he expects this team to compete for a playoff spot when he announced McLellan as the new coach. He's got a coach who over the past 47 games has shown he can do that. He's also done it in Edmonton and Los Angeles.
The team should be better next season, with real depth at center and an improved defense.
