"It's good luck if it rains on your wedding day"

"It's a curse if you win the PT"

These things have not been proven by a valid scientific process....but I'll tell you one thing- a win tonight would be good.

I don't care much about the President's trophy in the hockey context but we are objectively an underperforming original 6 franchise and so I'll take any additional scraps of legitimacy we can get.
Kind of tangential, but if we win a cup within the next few years the Rangers' success since 2006 is going to be completely recontextualized by everyone. All of a sudden you will be hearing people talk about our "winning culture" and how successful the rebuild was in getting a quick turnaround.

Maybe.

I think the prevailing wisdom is that NYR from 2006 to 2019 was a story of

1) Henrik dragging poor and mediocre teams to the playoffs
2) Henrik dragging decent rosters to the ECF and SCF

I think we will end up considering this a different 'era' if we win or lose. At least, I think of this as the first post-Henrik new NHL era.

President's Trophy curse is such nonsense. So sick of hearing about that every year. It doesn't matter what other teams have done in the past. What matters is this team this year. We are more likely to win a cup if we get game 7's at home every series. That doesn't guarantee anything, but it helps.
Couldn't agree more. If those game 7s in 1994 against the Devils and Canucks were on the road, we probably don't win the cup. I also don't think its a coincidence that all 3 OT losses against the Kings were on the road.

I think there is a truth to this, but I also think that, for example, Boston's lack of playoff success the past bunch of years is excused because of their 2011 cup win and people view their continued relevance as part of an organizational commitment to success (which certainly was not the case before their cup win!). I think with the way people tend to ascribe narratives we will see them chunked together.

Boston gets away with murder. Take away their Cup win, and nobody has blown it more. One Cup makes everyone forget everything else.

Like us during the Henrik years, Boston over-relies on goaltending. The one year they won it, Thomas went absolutely ape shit.

Yes and if we win the cup we will too.

Even if we get smoked 20-0, this season was a major triumph considering how many dudes went down.

Bring on the f*ckin’ PO’s. We need to avenge last spring in a big way.
Most of our big guns were there all season. Fox only missed 10 games. Losing Chytil obviously hurt but I don't think losing Trouba was much of a negative. Wheeler was replaceable.

I really just don't want to play Islanders in the first round. This fanbase isn't ready to potentially lose in the first round, 2 years in a row to divisional rivals. Also, it's going to be very hard to read through these forums with some of our fans trash talking and it potentially backfiring on us.

You must be new here.

This has existed since I joined these forums. How many here said "at this point, I'd rather Kakko over Hughes anyway"?

Hint: It is WAY more than you think.

Unlike the Devils, the islanders aren’t very dangerous though. I’d rather play them than Tampa or Pittsburgh .

But I’d really rather play Detroit so let’s get it done and hope Detroit takes care of business against the Habs
